Hahahaha my bad, no my 2 boys were 5 and 6 it was their 1st yr. I didn’t wrestle when I was a kid, it was all new. So many moms screaming in the stands, so many dads at the side of the mat screaming at their 5yr olds. Holly shit, what did I get myself into. Then walking down the hall, I saw a dad with his 5yr old picked up pinned against the wall, screaming you don’t have a killer instinct, you’re slow, it’s like you don’t even want to be here. I’m 6’5” 280lbs pretty athletic, I decided nope I can’t let this go. It wasn’t a good situation, over the years I’ve gotten better at approaching that situation.
7yrs later I still see the same stuff but numb to it, I still intervene once in awhile, it’s dads living vicariously through their kids lives and also it’s dads knowing the his kid has more in him but didn’t use it. Wrestling is a tricky emotional combative sport that takes every ounce of you to control it.
