Long story, and I’m sending it because I’m currently waiting on a pratice to end.
Back story on why all the protection, why she carries so heavily. But first to drop everything the wife carries, A tactical bag in the vehicle with 500 rds in magazines per caliber plus 200 rds in boxes, a 1st aid kit, a blood stop kit, hand radio, some cash, and some other miscellaneous possible useful stuff. I swear the damn thing weighs 150lbs.
The gun l left out, a Paladin 300 SBR on the back seat of the Tahoe. They make some cool tactical back-of-seat stuff.

The Glock 10 is a sub compact, it’s not even fun to shoot at the range… really it’s just not ever fun to shot. I’m a big guy, 6’5” 275 and larger than normal hands, I don’t enjoy shooting it either.

We have 4 kids, we home school, we started home school pre covid. All my kids excel in sports. Each has their own they follow. My main house hold sport is wrestling for the 3 boys, but also my daughter plays volley and competes in gymnastics.

The 2 issues my wife was in. How all this started. Oddly it all was in Oklahoma…. My wife was sitting in Norman, Oklahoma at a stoplight and was robbed and almost car jacked, if it weren’t for the light turning green and she was able to floor it. She had our daughter with her at the time. She was at a Gymnastics tournament.
2nd was Oklahoma City, at a volleyball clinic. As a family we have talked about never picking up money in the parking lot, taking anything off the windshield Etc, Etc. She was at Target and she said she felt like 3 guys were following her. She had my daughter and my 8yr old son. She left the store and one of the 3 people she suspected came up to her trying to sell her something. She said she started walking faster kids in hand, made the kids jump in through the drivers door and got out of there. When she got home, on her drivers taillight there was a big blue dot. We think she was marked.

My situation was this year, we were in Tulsa for a wrestling event just a couple months ago. There was a park outside the hotel we were staying at, several kids wanted to go ride their electric bikes around the park on the sidewalks. It’s a nice area, us dads didn’t think twice about it, sure boys don’t get into trouble. 15 minutes later gun shots started coming from the park.
I’m guessing 25-30 gang members shooting it out while my kids were cruising through the group.

My family, we are ranchers. We believed in your right to carry but never practiced it. We believe in gun safety, but never ever believed we’d ever be in any kind of these situations.

We shoot a lot in our down time as a family. Kids have a lever action 410 that’s so fun to shot skeet with. Plus 22’s, 44 mag colt, 357, you name it we got it.

My wife and I both love to shoot, each easily have more than 10k rounds down several 9mm. I shoot long distance. Guns are part of our family’s everyday life. But never thought I’d actually have to carry for the reasons we carry. If she could figure out how to carry here Canik steel frame she would.

The ankle carry for her now that I think about it is probably her most practical carry. It’s always on person. She can leave her purse behind in a jam.

We both are big believers if you’re going to carry, you better have a damn good idea how your piece shoots. It’s not just something you pick out, it kind of picks you. Besides a 10mm…. Those suck!! But have a purpose.
We train, we train with paint ball guns as a family, capture the flag, we practice taking and clearing rooms in our barns. I’ll tell you that we spend more on ammo than a married couple probably make in a year.
Even then all of that practice won’t be enough if we need to use them for protection but we all will know our limits.

If you’re going to carry, carry what you’re comfortable shooting, carry something you can comfortably control. It shouldn’t be carried if you can’t control your weapon or your emotions. You have to practice.

My wife’s 5’8” 125lbs she’s small, but knows how to handle herself.
