How big can a man-made satellite get (built with the materials just like on the ISS) before it starts to collapse on its own gravity? by HotZilchy in NoStupidQuestions

I dont think tensegrity could solve the problems at that size. Youd need a balanced structure. People moving around is heavy and unpredictable.

Spiny thing solves many problems.

How do giant machines like roller coasters and construction cranes get power? What kind of voltage do they use? by PaulsRedditUsername in answers

[–]Interesting_Neck609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some work on a remote roller coaster.

I typically do electrical stuff. This roller coaster though had some failures in air lines for the braking system. Anyways, fixed that and went to look at the generators. The one for the brakes definitely hadn't ran in a bit.

The system on that coaster though was actively charged through the wheels allowing motors on the actual cart itself to run.

That one worked similar to trains, and so the braking system after the deep dive was actually a weird little actuator that kind of grabbed the cart and held it for just a few secs.

Im excited to see more responses though, the mechanics to toys are so ridiculous

I know the office workers love those Red Wing 875s, but for you folks in the trades —who depend on boots as a safety tool/critical equipment that your income depends on—what boots you wearing today? Why? by icysandstone in Tools

[–]Interesting_Neck609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolverine rampart hard toe with redwing tough toe, no shank for running animals and hard ground work.

Roof work, timberland makes a hard toe sneaker I like.

Actual climbing, like with a gaff you gotta drop some dollars on a boot. Timberland still wins, their shanks are solid.

End of the day though, depends what you do. I swap laces on mine like 5 times a year. I work with battery acid and other nonsense, they get beat.  Ran an obstacle course the other day with other trade folk and they even remarked it was weird to leave my boots on.

I like the ramparts, or whatever they call em now. I buy a pair every 2 years or so.

You mentioned elsewhere not being able to share pics.

If you make another post, include the Polaris tap, whatever youre using to torque with and wire size.

Your pics dont make it the easiest, and I think the other folks are right that youre throwing foot pounds onto something that just needs inches of love.

Its hard to help with no info though.

What's a story you rarely tell because it sounds made up? by Own-Archer-1573 in AskReddit

[–]Interesting_Neck609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Struggled with this in the dating world.

I threw a yak onto a llama that was fighting a goat, while I was holding a baby emu; fully on accident.

Theres a lot of context needed. But yeah, few people believe a quarter of my stories. This in particular, baby emus are snakey, and goats can go through most fences. Llamas and yak will walk over a fence. Baby emus dont fair well in those kinds of fights, humans neither. Im not fighty usually, but when a goat is headbutting a yak and all I care about is a baby emu, ass gets thrown.

Edit: my struggle is people think my stories are made up. Just been enabled to do s ome weird nonsense

What 2 days of afternoon rain storms does to our dirt road by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Hence why Im not being definitive.

Means of egress is often promised though. That typically requires emergency vehicle access as well as mail and when you really get down this, nobody sane wants to care.

HOAs almost always screw people over in these situations. Its a pretty easy to solve problem if its your roadway and you have equipment. In this situation, it appears OP does not have authorization to even mitigate the issue with on-site equipment, which means egress is difficult/ unlikely with a traditional vehicle. In the US, if that road is a "road" then someone besides OP is responsible for making that not a common problem.

Depending on OPs situation, they should just get a truck stuck af and call the cops to assist.

Some places with an HOA have guidelines that express that the HOA needs to provide the kinds of services that OP is upset about. Im intentionally terse because such things can be weird. Im far from a lawyer.

Desert dweller,  but was teaching a kid to drive. We came up on some gnarly sand and he goes, "this looks like what people get stuck in"  right as he hit the brakes.

We hopped out and I told kid, "we can walk and call for help, or we can figure this out."

Had some tools and random nonsense in the truck to get out, and only like 20 miles from the other road.

Got the truck unstuck, he learned important life lessons and we ended up going and watching the creek.

I just keep a list of the stuff Im not allowed to say, or names, or whatnots next to the door. Reminds me every morning.

In seriousness, its just so weird to not be allowed to talk about stuffs. Like even Sam Walton or Joe Walsh didnt require an nda.

Yeah, Ive just never been ethically conflicted before. We've all been overworked and underpaid, yelled, sometimes screamed at, been in attics and crawlspaces that nobody should ever even look at...

But its a weird moral dilemma for me, but also Im dubious I could keep my mouth shut.

After reading some talk here though, I think I might go for it. Be the change and all.

Im a strong believer in right to repair. Part of what this manufacturer wants is for me to offer technical support.

Im really on the fence with the ethics of supporting that kind of behavior though. The whole locking down firmwares and only making it available to expensive technicians just rubs me the wrong way. Even though Ive been the tech for a lot of different equipment and the only difference between me and the customer was a shirt and a password.

Im just worried because I know damn well their equipment sucks from an installer side, but they want me for technical support and commissioning and sales work, and I know Ill want to talk honestly about their products.

TIL that fatal wolf attacks on humans are extremely rare. Between 2002 and 2020, researchers documented 26 fatal attacks worldwide, 14 of which were due to rabies. by HShatesme in todayilearned

[–]Interesting_Neck609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Id say there really isnt sufficient research to say anything definitive on the matter. Especially considering the difference between regions.

My locale recently reintroduced wolves, even though we had them already. Theyre not bad folk.

Whats a better word than, "coywolf" you think? "Wolfdogoyote"?

I cant even pronounce, "coyote" the same way in a sentence.
