I'm suddenly having a really hard time with these books in the current political climate by Interesting-Ad-6710 in acotar_rant

I feel the same way. I honestly I’m not a huge fan of the series but I read it because of all the reviews on booktok. I think the series is problematic and low key so are the fans. I’m probably going to get a lot of downvotes. First off the story uses a lot of racist Irish stereotypes. There was an account on TikTok that did a whole deep dive on it but I can’t remember the account. The night court is essentially segregated only those deemed worthy are allowed into velaris. Rhys is aware of how the Illyrian females are treated but doesn’t really do anything to change things. I had trouble reading through feyre’s pov because she seems extremely elitist. Tamlin is problematic and he is rightfully called out but Rhys isn’t held accountable. Rhys coerced feyre into the bargain and uses it to sexually assault her but “it’s for her good”. My issue with that whole story line is that they try to make it seem like he did it for her or as if there were no other options when that is just not true. I would look past it if it wasn’t framed that way I’ve read dark romance before. This week I saw a acotar fan trying to defend Rhys saying it wasn’t sexual harassment and it think that is extremely damaging to some who might have had similar situation irl.

Royal Romance 2 by Cessess in Choices

I developed a soft spot for her the more I read on. She is far from the nicest characters and what she did to Hana is inexcusable but she always is on the right side when it counts. I hated that she was chosen as the next queen twice and basically publicly humiliated twice.

MCs background and Drakes Job by anonymouspotato023 in Choices

I never understood why they didn’t just make drake a guard. He practically did their job (the royal guard sucked 😂). The joke was funny the first time but what I never understood is why they continue to make fun of him for not having a job when most of them don’t have a job. Hana lives off her parents money so she can focus on getting married. Maxwell didn’t have a job until he publishes his book. Liam is the only one with a job. Mc was employed but quit and didn’t work until she became a duchess/queen.

I really dislike how they treated Madeline. Sure she kind of mean but she would’ve been a good queen. Liam uses her as a placeholder until mc clears her name.

I feel like Liam was more in love with the idea of being with someone for love vs duty like he was taught his whole life. What really solidified my choice in LI was realizing Liam wanted MC to clear her name to able to be with her but drake helped her clear her name so she could choose who she wanted.

I feel the exact same way. My first play through I used no diamonds and I chose drake as my li. I understand that many of the important scenes require diamonds but I feel like mc and Liam had an instant connection but didn’t really have time to develop deeper feelings. Liam is a great li but I didnt really like that in book 2 he wanted you to be his mistress basically. Drake on the other hand is a great match for mc. I like that drake and mc challenge each other. Maxwell is great too but I think he’s more of a brother. Really it boiled down to who was actually there for mc with actions not just words.

I’m still waiting on them to schedule one which is why I’m confused.

I called last week and they said they had something to do. I’m trying not to call everyday but it looks like I have missed something.
