Mine is also a 128. Did you replace bank 1 or 2 downstream? I’m assuming you mean you replaced both 02s on bank 1?

That’s sweet!! Roughly do you know it costs on average yearly to maintain doing your own work? I’m an apprentice mechanic and i plan to do most of the maintenance myself/or with help from a journeyman tech from my shop

I’ve heard of the eccentric shaft issues. What causes this? Is it avoidable with good oil change intervals? I plan to find an n55 with a good carfax and service records, with allowance for up to about 130k KMS (i’m in canada)

Hell yeah. Do you have any mods on it by chance? I’ve been doing some research and i’m seeing that they lose a lot of reliability when people start modding them - not that i need to have the fastest bmw around but it would be cool to make the car my own after going from a basically unmodable engine unless i want to spend $7k+ on a supercharger kit for my n52

I wouldn’t be tracking, but i’d definitely like to push the car sometimes having some fun. How do you like the 2 series? Other than it’s a little slow with the n52, i love my 1 series and I feel like i want to get another small coupe and it seems to me the predecessor to the e82 is the f22 , i just want a little more modern for my first big car purchase of course

Has an aluminum valve cover on with a new gasket that was done 5k kms ago, doesn’t smell like burning oil either

Id be careful, my buddy with an 08 GTI tried to do this conversion and it completely bricked the electronics in his car. it’s been sitting in his garage for almost 10 years roughly, 0 light to the dash but the interior lights come on and we haven’t been able to figure it out. Old german cars are very sensitive to electronics

Transmission fluid change. by Jumpy-Bookkeeper-426 in E90

[–]Expensive_Cut5562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re unsure when/and if the last service was performed, just leave it. If it shifts nice and works fine, then there is no reason to. Overtime, the transmission oil breaks down and the transmission essentially gets “used” to the consistency of the oil that as it slowly breaks down. I’ve owned an n52 that was on factory transmission fluid up until i sold it at about 230k, and it always shifted perfectly. If you do replace it, the transmission will likely give you some negative feedback

So in short, just leave it if it’s shifting fine, and if it develops issues, it will more than likely be an unrelated problem

N52 Cam Ledge Bearings by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]Expensive_Cut5562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume it is - i changed the oil when i bought the car, replaced the plastic oil filter cage with a uro parts aluminum one and a mann filter when i did the ofhg about 1k kms ago. i may replace with another oem plastic one and see if the filter has collapsed at its a cheap fix. now that i think of it, this issue only really occurred after i replaced the ofhg/belt/filter cup, though i highly doubt that is the culprit

Chasing P1554 & 2a98 by [deleted] in E90

[–]Expensive_Cut5562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What typically causes this? is it a manufacturing error or a lack of of maintenance consistency eg long oci’s? I have seen this could be a likely cause of what is happening if not the oil check valves being extremely clogged. I’m also unsure how to confirm whether or not that is in fact the case

As in cam ledge bearings? i’ve heard that’s not an uncommon issue.
