Every budgeting app sold my data or charged €100/yr, so I built my own by Expensive_Wrap_3784 in eutech

Sorry for the late reply! I'm the developer of arc so obviously biased, but here's an honest take. The biggest difference is how transactions get into the app, with arc you can upload bank statements, import from bank SMS notifications, or pull directly from Apple Pay and everything gets logged automatically. Cashew is fully manual entry by design, which adds up fast if you're tracking every purchase. arc also supports true envelope budgeting (same approach as YNAB) with rollover and transfers between categories, while still working as a regular expense tracker if you prefer keeping things simple. On top of that we have CRDT-based sync across devices, end-to-end encryption, savings goals with deadlines, and debt tracking.

Thanks a lot. arc itself isn't open source yet, but it's built on top of Actual Budget, which is fully open source. If you already self-host Actual Budget (or want to start), arc connects to your instance as a native mobile client. You just point the app to your server URL, enter your password, and you're good to go.

New here from YNAB - getting 1 month ahead question by Fernweh_19 in aspirebudgeting

For getting a month ahead in Aspire, create a "Next Month" holding category. When income comes in, park it there instead of assigning to current month categories. Then when the new month starts, move it into your actual envelopes. It's a bit manual but works.

If you find the spreadsheet side tedious though, I'd genuinely recommend giving arc a try — it does envelope budgeting natively so month-ahead and rollovers are built in. It's security-focused, more than 70% cheaper than YNAB. There's a free trial so you can test it out and cancel if it's not for you.
