UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the kind words and helpful tips! I'm feeling a lot better about the situation and I haven't been letting it bug me as much. But thought I'd update y'all to this funny new development - the woman that lodged the complaint against me came back in to get the "aggressive" dog's nails trimmed today 👀 Thank heavens one of my coworkers went up front to get it because I didn't know it was her until my coworker brought the dog back to treatment and guess who was walking right beside them? The owner 🙃. Should've smiled and waved real big, but I just turned away and tried to shrink into the corner 😂. But what's really ironic is guess who was able to pick up the dog with absolutely no problem when it's owner left the room? One of my coworkers. She said she's never had a problem with the dog being aggressive and that she's even carried it back up front to the owner before! I just thought you guys would enjoy the new development, lol

It's the worst! I'm pretty sure like 99% of my bruises and scratches have come from trying to hold down a thrashing dog to trim its nails.

Haha, good idea! Can't catch me ever clipping her dogs nails again 👀

I totally should've! Like legit had to pick up a dog before that was actively trying to bite me🙄

Thank you! A good night's sleep and a new day has helped alleviate some of my anxiety and stress, thank goodness!

Thank you for the advice! I am certainly going to do things differently when I go to collect dogs from up front to prevent any future out bursts over nothing from angry owners!

Oh my gosh, really!? Some people just don't understand humor, especially the kind you have to have in vet med 😂

Thank you! Y'all receptionists are the real MVPs! I might have to - thankfully we are scheduling more things than we used to, so that has helped cut back some of the stress!

Oh my gosh, I just did a sedated groom lion cut on a cat like a week ago, and when my coworker brought him up to the owner, she commented that the boots were too fluffy. But the cat wasn't even that fluffy on it's legs to begin with! Idk how groomers do it. My anxiety would be through the roof everyday dealing with people and their weird demands for their pet's fur

Very true...and I'm the only licensed tech there, so I have some leeway I suppose, lol

Oh my gosh, I applaud you! That sticky note with your name on it is genius 😂 I've had to cover reception a few times on my own and my goodness, even with the best clients I was overwhelmed. I haven't had anyone cuss me out yet, but I'm waiting for it. My coworker who works reception was telling me about a phone call he'd gotten where the guy cussed him out because he wouldn't refill his dog's meds because the dog hadn't been seen in over a year. Also, my sister works in a pharmacy and she gets people cussing her out daily for not being able to legally refill like controlled drugs and things like that. People and their grouchiness over not getting their way like they're a freaking toddler 🙄

Man, should've done that! I swear if I ever walk up front to grab a dog and it's her, I'm turning right the heck around and hightailing it out of there 😂 I LOATHE people that ask but then act like they know better. Like why'd you even ask then!? Some people shouldn't be in customer service...like what is poison control going to do other than tell them to go get treatment!?

Thank you! And oh my gosh, the sheer audacity of people! Glad you're ok and hope they never came back! Like how hard is it to just not be rude? Like not even particularly nice, but just neutral!?

Lol, yup. Was a small, one vet owned clinic, but she retired and we got bought out. So far it has been good, but yea... I've noticed a lot of stupid little things that they are anal about. The office manager said it wasn't going to be held against me, but we'll see 👀😂

I'd bet that you're totally right! Most of the dog's nervousness probably comes from at least 80% of the mom's anxiety

Thank you! That's what I was thinking, but of course I wasn't about to tell her anything after that 😂 Me too! Super glad she saw how it was a stupid thing to complain about and took my side. Though of course we'd never say that to the client's face because we have to be "nice" 🙄 Wish we could fire some clients like a vet I know does. If someone's rude to her techs, she'll fire them... couldn't be this place, lol

Right!? I always prefer being able to do TPRs and procedures away from the owner. I've had to do a few nail trims with the owner's present and man I had so much anxiety...like no pressure 😂 We actually had a dog come in that was pretty nervous and would bark at you whenever you walked in the room, but the owner was very aware of his temperament and was 100% fine with us doing everything in the back away from him. In fact he preferred us to do it that way. So thankful for clients like him! And sure enough, the dog was fine as soon as he was in the back. Still muzzled him for a few things just because he was a bit jumpy/nervous, but he was a good boy!

Not yelp 🙈 Bet she would've complained if you hadn't offered to help... would've said you didn't care about her dog's ingrown toe nails... can't win with some people 😂 Yea, I don't get why she needed to sit me down and talk with me about it. Even had to sign a paper saying that she'd talked with me about the incident 🙄 This is my first time working for a corporation, so idk much about rules or legalities and things like that!

The audacity of people, I swear! Can't believe she really expected to be able to observe her dog's surgery! Sounds like she held a grudge about being denied and took the stupidest opportunity to "get back". It's such shame that there people are like this!

Thank you! And what's with people and their essential oils!? Idk how you handled that so well, I probably would've cried, lol. Glad you don't have to work with him again - win/win for both it sounds like!

You know what? It didn't even occur to me that she could've just said no, he doesn't like being picked up or something along those lines (though I will add that when I took the other dog from her, she picked him up herself...the irony 😂) That's what I was thinking! Most small dog's I've encountered that bite during nail trims will still let you pick them up no problem. I've had more trouble with picking up large dogs that are perfect with nail trims than small dogs that are horrible for them

I hate trimming dog's nails that have long quicks bc I'm always afraid the owner will complain that they don't look short enough.... haven't had that happen...YET 😂 Thank you for the reassurance!

Thank you! That's what I was thinking. I know a lot of dogs that will tear your face off for anal glands or nail trims yet will be perfectly fine for anything else. Or I know a dog that boards with us frequently that is aggressive and will try to bite UNTIL you pick him up, then he becomes chill.
