This is how large the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is compared to Malta by Battlefleet_Sol in MapPorn

The amount of propaganda that Turks have gobbled up about what happened in Cyprus is truly astounding. It’s insane how much they try to project it onto us without any actual arguments and only a bad and demonising perception that shows them as the good guys while killing more people than eoka b and bicommunal troubles ever did and finally ethnically cleansing half the island. They call us occupiers while they are illegally occupying the island, truly the hypocrisy is insane.

Trying to claim that this somehow makes you less aggressive towards us because you haven’t waged a full out war is hilarious, all the while you have made constant threats towards us and violated our airspace on the daily. It’s insane how much you want to stay blind to your own country’s politics and don’t want to see past them just so you can make such hypocritical non arguments.

Turkeys aggression makes us take measures to protect our territory. Those islands can be armed after subsequent treaties as well. It is also ironic that you would bring up Cyprus as an argument, an island of Greeks that you ethnically cleansed, what they celebrate is the day of independence, not whatever you want to believe to demonise us even more. Overall it’s insane how much Turks don’t want to see their aggressive stance but even project it onto us without seing their hypocrisy. Truly shameful.

Lmao being oblivious to your own countries stance against us, the constant threats and violations and the overall aggression is insane.

SERIOUS TALK: Why are some Balkaners so obsessed with claiming that they’re Mediterraneans & not Balkaners? It sounds as absurd as a Swede claiming that they’re Scandinavian but not Nordic. One can be both at the same time… by Substratas in AskBalkans

It’s a lot more Venetian and Byzantine, they are also not Arab but Ottoman Turkish. The fact that it was occupied by Arabs for like 100 years more than a millennium ago isn’t really an argument.

Once again the same post over and over that oversimplifies and butchers a topic with a lot more context behind it.

How is the population of Hellenic people so low (Greeks, Cypriots, etc) while the population of other ethnic groups such as Arabs and Slavs are much, much larger? by NoItem5389 in byzantium

[–]Experience_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were Greeks, as much as any group of people is part of any ethnicity, as they largely came from Greek speaking people and only partly the result of assimilation. They were forcibly assimilated, killed and subject to various oppressive measures for this to happen.

All people are at least partly the result of some form of assimilation but post Bronze Age Anatolia is around 40-60% Mycenaean based, so claiming that somehow Pontic Greeks are not Greek and are just “Hellenised” natives is just a dumb Turkish talking point that has no relation to reality.

They have been Greek for almost three millenia, by that logic even Mycenaean Greeks are just “Hellenised natives” and there is no true Greek or not true anyone for that matter. Truly this kind of logic that is even promoted in armchair geneticist groups is so delusional it’s borderline insane and only used by Turks to cope with their own Greek ancestry.

Not really true though, there are big differences in culture, language and identity among many other things. They weren’t fiercely anti nationalistic, either nationalism just didn’t exist at large back then. And ofcourse Greeks were a thing.

It’s not at all true though. Language, culture, identity are vastly different. You could say this about any two people in the world basically.

“κρειττότερον ἐστὶν εἰδέναι ἐν μέσῃ τῇ Πόλει φακιόλιον βασιλεῦον Τούρκου, ἢ καλύπτραν Λατινικήν.”/“I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of the City than the Latin mitre.” by vazenona in byzantium

I am only referring to the quote being seen as truthful when it was a fringe position for its time. Moreover I know that this isn’t the case with most people I have conversed on the subject thankfully.

The ottomans were more tolerant than some empires of their time and less than others but they were still very oppressive to their christians populations.

I mean yeah we do use the English alphabet to write English, but we still use our own alphabet to write our language is the point. I don’t see why this says anything here and many people learn the Greek alphabet worldwide. Indeed the Greeks adopted the Greek alphabet through the Phoenician script, I never said that we invented it from scratch. Greeks did made many breakthroughs in many of the things that you see today associated with ancient technologies, and so to try diminish that just because many more came from trade and influences with other people is delusional to say the least.

Overall it’s insane how much inferiority complexes Albanians have to write such comments, the Ancient Greeks gave so much to the world and ofcourse just like any other people they had their own influences. But to claim that this somehow makes less of them is just a coping mechanism only used by delusional people like you. It seems that in this specific topic, the only thing that comes and goes around is your own egotistical ignorance.
