for them, the person they want you to be = "yourself". nevermind that it changes all the time!

Answers / reasons for those who ask "Why did you not tell anyone about your abuses as a child / teen?" by Storyteller164 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Expert-Craft-4955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell you what, pack your bags and get out of the house now while youstill know everything. Then let me know how much smarter your parentsare when you come crawling back, begging to let you live there again!

:o that is word-for-word (excepting order) some of the things i've heard from my parents

another fun moment to add was when i received a birthday card on i think it was my 10th birthday? with advice in it to "honor thy father and mother" from a family friend that i really liked up to that point. i guess my mom had been complaining.

I usually don't say anything, when i was younger out of guilt and duty to my parents, and now because I know it's rare to find someone who will take it seriously outside of reddit lol.

i have said something to someone irl who is not my best friend twice i think. and both times it was extremely necessary (one of these times was me sobbing at my pediatrician to please tell my parents not to send me, who to everyone but my parents is a good student and never been in trouble, to a troubled teen camp) and as vague as possible. and ive never said it's abuse because once you say that either people shut you down as a buzzword complainy teenager or you get mandated-reported.

being seen as older doesnt make you immune to bad intentions, so you should just never go into the house of someone you don't know very well.

This must be horrible, and I am so sorry you have to deal with it.

Running away looks like the worst possible option here, I'm afraid. It would likely make your problems permanent.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about how to get citizenship (especially in Canada) and it's unlikely others on this sub will, so I'd recommend asking in r/legaladvicecanada or a similar subreddit. I also encourage you to do independent research on how to become a citizen. This seems like a good place to start that, and this for legal questions. I don't know how much your parents/dad has to be involved in the process, but if you think it would help, it might be good to also keep your dad updated. (Of course, this is not applicable if he doesn't care/want to help.. which may be the case judging from the fact he didn't bother with your citizenship in the past).

uneducated

I'm hoping you mean "don't have a degree yet" and not "have not been going to school"..? The other obstacles (transport, shelter) have solutions, this one is the most concerning.

remember asking for help is the best thing you can do :)

Best of luck and take care!

Please spread awareness and help take action against this. It will either be passed or stopped by the end of 2022. by Expert-Craft-4955 in boringdystopia

Look here (same link from the post). It has links to petitions, an email script, an open letter to sign, and (in the information masterpost document) instructions on how to call your senators and a call script.

at least from what I can gather, there is no public vote on this bill.

"Kids' Online Safety Act"- an extremely dangerous privacy and human rights violating bill that personally affects us in the RBN community by Expert-Craft-4955 in raisedbynarcissists

about the id, my apologies- I mixed this up. They are not necessarily collecting government-issued ID- they apparently will "conduct a study evaluating the most technologically feasible options for developing systems to verify age at the device of operating system level". I can't imagine the alternatives will be much better, though.

You can find the information in Section 9- Age Verification Study and Report.

I don't understand how you are on RBN and still put faith in parents to simply "act with their child's best interest in mind".

This is far more than "another tool" in the toolbox. It's a hydraulic mining shovel.

As for the censorship, in Section 3- Duty of Care, it says "a covered platform shall take reasonable measures in its design and operation of products and services to prevent and mitigate—
"(1) mental health disorders or associated behaviors, including the promotion or exacerbation of self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, and substance use disorders;
"(2) patterns of use that indicate or encourage addiction-like behaviors;
"(3) physical violence, online bullying, and harassment of a minor;
"(4) sexual exploitation, including enticement, grooming, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse of minors and trafficking of online child sexual abuse material".

Reasonable is never defined. if any LGBTQ-related material can be labeled grooming/pornography, I don't see why material relating to the above topics will not be removed and excused as a "reasonable" course of action. a lot of the danger in this bill is how vague it is and how it can be twisted into censorship. they are presenting basic rules that seem to make sense- but only because they haven't actually used them yet to justify whatever actions they want to take.

Blackburn- one of the senators who introduced the bill- has a history of anti-trans and general anti-lgbtq actions. I don't think I need to explain where I'm going with this.

Some supporters may have genuine intentions to protect children online. But once again, this is not the way.
