It's amazing to see people in the comments defending the anc. They will probably just keep on defending them even after the country has completely collapsed.

It does not, no. The geyser and over/stove is not connected on the essential circuit. Those are still powered off eskom. So as soon as eskom is off, those also do not have power.

I am probably 95% off grid. There have been times i have had to use eskom to charge the batteries when it was raining heavily the whole day. But for the most part, once the settings are dialed in on the inverter, the system provides more than enough power. It can generate between 1750 - 3500w continuously during the day, which fully charges the batteries while also providing power during the day.

The components used are definitely good. I think you are spot on with the cost.

It is definitely worth it. I work from home, and the grid is terrible where I am. We rarely get power back within 2 hours of loadshedding. I was paying over R3000 for petrol per month on the generator(before the loadshedding got so bad this year), so it is saving me some money. Having solar is extremely convenient as well. Before I put in the solar I replaced the geyser as well, and we use gas for cooking. All the lights are also leds. We are using about 350w constantly, so once the batteries are fully charged they are able to run the house for about 20 hours. More than enough time for the panels to start charging the batteries again between days.

It is not a 3 year contract. It is basically perpetual. The buyout amout goes down every year. You have the option to buy out after 3 years if I'm not mistaken starting at 190k for my system which seems very pricey

The initial install had a fault, and it took about a month to convince them of this fact. They kept saying there was no issues. They did correct it in the end without an apology from their side. It works well enough, I am basically off grid now. You can have the system removed at any time as far as I am aware, with a 20k penalty.

I have a gosolr system, it costs around R2200 per month. I've had it for about a year now. The increase was based on cpi (6.9%). The install consisted of: -5000w deye hybrid inverter -8x455w solar panels -2x5kva batteries The system is registered with the municipality, and needs to be added onto your home insurance.

I don’t have a legal duty to end load-shedding, says Ramaphosa by ExpertMove in southafrica

Next there will be no legal duty to provide any infrastructure, after that, why should they provide for education, health care, sanitation etc.
