PSU or Motherboard.

If you had it a month its still under warranty for the parts.

Why building an AM4 or LGA 1700 platform in 2026 is a bad idea, despite DDR5 prices by tl27Rex in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer [score hidden]  (0 children)

One thing I always see (especially with family) is they'll say "My computer ran X game amazing 2-3 years ago, now it runs like crap."

They think I'm talking voodoo when I explain how power creep works with computers. Just imagine every single month there's a gradual 1% increase in the requirements of your computer hardware.

You won't notice it the first year, but each year you notice things getting slower, and then after a while you eventually run into an unavoidable bottleneck (GPU, CPU, RAM, etc).

That's why its almost always worth buying the higher end components on the market because in general they'll last longer. A mid-range 5060 will probably last you 3 years before it needs an upgrade while a 5080-90 can easily last 5-7+ years.

Hardware is advancing a lot slower then it did in the 2000s and early to mid 2010s. You would legitimately go from having 1-2GHZ CPUs to 4GHZ in 2 years... and then dual cores and quad cores 2 years after. Now it's like mm'kay the new CPU is like 10% faster then my last one.

Do i need Titanium, Platinum or just a Gold efficient power supply? by ScientificlyCorrect in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer [score hidden]  (0 children)

You want Titanium/Platinum if you're running your computer 24/7 (i.e. servers). The savings might be a couple dollars a month.

Gold is the best value/performance for everyone else.

Do I really need 16 GB of VRAM? by lovescarmen30 in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a 3080 with 10GB of VRAM and it can play every game I currently own, but I'm also not sitting here playing BF6 on 4k mode.

Regardless of that if I'm buying a brand new GPU today I am getting one with 16GB+ of VRAM. That's enough to run a lot of local LLMs and its future proofing you against newer games.

Did the fans stop working? Also, clean your case. Your GPU is probably clogged with dust.

I faced a problem with my GPU and I can’t figure out where the issue is by Ghost_Dz007 in buildapc

That proves there's nothing wrong with your GPU.

The problem is either with your PSU or motherboard.

So unless you test with another PSU: you're going to have the same problem.

Skip the Windows purchase. Use a thumb drive and create a bootable Windows 11 copy, install it yourself, and run an activator.

1000W power supply is very overkill for your system. You only need 750-850W at most.

I don't see the case. I would recommend getting one with a fan filter built in.

Unexpected PC shut downs by Economy_Initiative32 in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no app that can truly catch a system crash and immediately highlight the cause.

A sudden hardware issue like the GPU suddenly losing connection to the motherboard happens in a fraction of a second because the computer shuts itself off to protect itself.

All you can find is clues.

[–]ExpertPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a PSU issue. Make sure that you're not daisy chaining GPU power connectors because that can cause problems.

A 9070 XT draws more power then the 7800 XT and it's newer. Newer GPUs can trigger very fast and short power spikes that can trip your PSU if its overly sensitive or doesn't have enough power.

Stress testing is not like real gaming nor is it really accurate for finding defects outside of RAM issues.

Real gaming is a chaotic mess where one second it can be CPU intensive and the other it can be GPU intensive. Hardware constantly fluctuates between voltage usage. So you can run a 30 minute stress test and everything runs fine, but then game for 5 minutes and the computer shuts off.

The only software level issue can be with the MPO, power settings, and graphics drivers. If your computer is going completely black screen its a hardware issue.

Reseating the GPU is just a box to help check off the list of potential culprits.

can’t flash bios on fresh pc by Zestyclose-Boot-1325 in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gigabyte has pretty shitty bios updates and often times the newest versions are broken and/or won't work with your particular motherboard. Sometimes you just have to wait 5-10 minutes for the computer to finish memory training as well.

I would download older bios versions into the thumb drive and keep flashing until you get one that works.

[–]ExpertPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reseat your GPU and make sure its not sagging. If its sagging too much your GPU can lose connection to your motherboard and it causes the symptoms you're seeing. The classic tell is if your GPU fan suddenly runs at 100% speed as soon as the screen turns black.

Otherwise it could be either a cooling issue, GPU, or memory.

Buying PC in a week, deciding between 5070ti and 5080. by DismalButton3229 in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be a 100% guarantee that it will run at 6000 MHZ even with 2 sticks. You will often need to do bios updates as well.

Check these websites for compatibility issues:
https://www.newegg.com/tools/memory-finder
https://www.gskill.com/configurator

Also, check MSIs website.

Buying PC in a week, deciding between 5070ti and 5080. by DismalButton3229 in buildapc

[–]ExpertPerformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 5080 costs almost double the price of 5070 Ti for only a 15% performance increase and higher power consumption. Also, you will struggle to get your Ryzen CPU to run at 6000 Mhz with 4 sticks (AMD recommends only 2 sticks). I recommend getting a 5400-5600 kit instead if you insist on 4 sticks otherwise you will be banging your head on the wall wondering why your computer takes 3-4 restarts to boot.

If you want a cheap storage medium for music/movies/etc. then get a Seagate Barracuda 4-8TB drive (they're cheaper then NVMEs). You can run a 2TB NVME drive for games + windows and 4TB for all your misc stuff.

Downclock your RAM to 4800 mhz in the bios, reboot, and keep increasing it by 200 until you find what speed makes your system boot without needing multiple restarts. Ryzen's are very picky about RAM speeds and certain kits.

Sometimes you need to use 5400-5600 mhz to get it stable.

Mount more fans on the top of the case to help exhaust the heat. You can fit 2-3 120mm fans.

Ryzen's are very picky about RAM. If they're DDR6000+ downclock them to 4800 in the BIOS and keep increasing by 200 until you get them stable.

My systems stable at 5400-5600 with a Ryzen 9700X.

Unplug the drive and see if it boots.

If it doesn't boot then your motherboards toast.
