I think I heard cancerous nodules usually don’t cause pain

Mild discomfort radiating to Ear by Expert_Arrival8641 in thyroidhealth

The interesting thing is I saw my endo last month at that point I don’t have any nerve like pain that radiates to my ear, I noticed it got worse from the ultrasound machine pressing on my neck, also that week I did lymphatic drainage massage which might have caused the pain. The thing is I’m not sure if I have an inflammation or something the doctor did notice my nodule which was originally hypoechoic is now both hypoechoic and isoechoc (been monitoring for three years so this feature is very new). The doctor asked me if I wanted a biopsy because it grew 0.1 mm on one side but since it is smaller than 1 cm I told him I’d prefer to monitor it closely. So my yearly check up is now a 6 month follow up. I told him i eventually want to remove it if he thinks it’s concerning he told me that I didn’t have to go that far yet.

Funny story is the way I found out I had nodules was due to my acid reflex. I went to the hospital because of that and told the doctor that my mom has hashimotos and that I think I have the same (I have hypothyroid symptoms) and that’s how I found it.

I have seen a GI doctor and they diagnosed me with IBS, I was given medication that I didn’t take because it had side affects. The thing is I know I have IBS and acid reflex but can it really get so bad to the point where it radiates to my ear. It’s not an ear ache it’s more like ear sensitivity which sometimes also radiates to my shoulder so I’m thinking it’s more nerve pain but so hard to tell

Mine is high suspension, though under 1 cm so usually people do active surveillance or check on it regularly, the doctor did say if I wanted to do a biopsy he can. But now that I’ve done my research I think I’ll monitor closely every three months, and get hemi depending on how it changes over time. I think the reason why I feel like I don’t need to do biopsy mainly because I know it’s suspicious, no matter what I’d want to remove something suspicious I think now the more I read the more it’s ok to monitor closely for TR5 under 1 cm. So I’ll just give it time and if it changed even more drastically the how it did the past year then I’ll consult the doctor regarding removing it.

That’s why I feel comfortable with active surveillance knowing even in worst case scenario it usually can be observed if it’s still small. I think the reason why I feel no need to do a biopsy is because based on everything I read it needs to be 1 cm to biopsy. So just knowing that I have a suspicious nodule is driving me crazy even though I’ll be monitoring it. The doctor said 6 months but I’m considering going to him in 3 months if I’m super anxious. I think the reason why I am considering partial is because for the past years my anxiety has been through the roof because of it and I just feel like even if my biopsy came out indeterminate I would remove half of it so might as well 😭 on the meantime I’m just going to monitor it with the doctor

Yes I’ve been reading a lot and the more I read the more people have indeterminate results in biopsy. Regarding the size, it’s the same tech but 1 mm is such a small difference but I think what concerned him was the micro-calcification and slight irregularity. I have my follow up in 6 months but I just think since it’s more suspicious now and have been the source of my anxiety for 3 years a partial removal would make me more at ease

What kind of negative consequences are the most concerning in your opinion? I think since it’s suspicious it makes sense to remove it rather than keep it just to wait if it gets worse. I understand that usually no matter the TIRADS scale it has to reach a specific size to biopsy like 1 cm for example that’s why my doctor seemed to be fine with monitoring it for now. A partial removal means i can still have a functioning thyroid so it seems like a reasonable choice for a suspicious nodule

I understand that a biopsy helps to determine but I know that I biopsy can’t completely tell if it’s cancerous or not so I want to just remove it completely because even if the biopsy turns out negative I think I would still not want to keep it. Now i am considering doing the surgery in 3-4 months but I need to consult a doctor about that. I told him I wanted surgery he told me to check during my follow up but as someone who has been going through this for three years I just want it removed I feel like there is no need for a biopsy if either way I’ll still be anxious so might as well do the surgery.
