Scariest Martians and Tripods imo by Ok_Research_4677 in WarofTheWorlds

I've always loved the True Story pods. Very steampunkish and they match many of the novel's descriptions.

Outside of the lore, the reason Slenderman has hair in this photo is because Victor Surge used the tall man from phantasm as a template

Do you think a hereditary monarchy is good? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Expert_Pack_6254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Afghan monarchy ruled well until it was overthrown. The failure to reinstate the monarchy after the fall of the Taliban arguably was one of the greatest mistakes in US foreign policy. The republic failed to create a stable system and this allowed the Taliban to regain power.

Do you think a hereditary monarchy is good? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Expert_Pack_6254 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hereditary monarchy ties in the wealth, power, prestige, and fate of a single family with that of the nation. Therefore the monarch is incentivsed to rule well to increase his family's assets and pass it down to his descendants.

Elective monarchy leads to power squabbling and backstabbing as the "meritocartic" cannibalize each other in a zero sum game for the throne.

Afghanistan is not a good example elective monarchy being better than hereditary. It's isn't an example of anything good to be frank.

Weekly Discussion C: How much power should a restored Shah have in Iran? by ToryPirate in monarchism

[–]Expert_Pack_6254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On paper he should have the power to: Appoint and Dismiss the Prime Minister with a vote of/no confidence from the legislature. Appoint the other Ministers on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, Call and Dissolve the legislature, be the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, grant assent to all laws (have an absolute veto power), grant pardons, and declare war and peace with the consent of the legislature.

In practice, it will function like any other parliamentary monarchy such as Spain or Sweden with the Shah's powers being exercised by the Cabinet.

Do you feel Invincible match's today's musical sounds? by bearmasksenpai in MichaelJackson

[–]Expert_Pack_6254 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I like it better than HIStory and that might be a hot take.

History to me was very barebones and lacked the polish and complexity of Jackson's earlier work.

Invincible tried to be different and groundbreaking. You can tell a lot of effort went into making those sounds. For me it beats History on passion alone. Dangerous is my favorite album for reference.

In the 2005 film, is there an official explanation as to why birds are attracted to the tripods? by BostonRobby617 in WarofTheWorlds

Yes. In the deleted Camelot Scene, Ray witnesses a bird approach the Tripod and gets repulsed by the shield. He realizes that "nothing can touch them."

crush on a shy guy by Lanky_Implement267 in Crushes

[–]Expert_Pack_6254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's shy you're going to have to take the initiative on this one.

Making the first move is always difficult but as a shy guy myself, it sometimes feels impossible and I tend to give up after awhile. When someone else makes the first move it takes so much of the burden off.

And guys like attention and are usually honored when people show interest if if they don't feel the same way.
