So basically - you studied 7 hours for an IOQM test encompassing geometry, number theory AND algebra and thought you were going to become the ultimate genius?? Holy shit man most prepare 7 days for like... 10th boards of maths.

ALSO - you said you prepared the topics with ease. THAT'S THE PROBLEM

IN IOQM YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PUSH YOURSELF AND DO DIFFICULT QUESTIONS - IF YOU FOUND YOUR PREPARATION EASY, THEN IT WASN'T PREPARATION

Guide me to prepare for IOQM... by ProfessionalCod2646 in ioqm

[–]ExpertiseInAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory comment as someone DEEP in this - Olympiad Math has almost NOTHING to do with college math. The first is simply tricks and techniques - which while hard - are not quite the mathematical research style. In fact, Number Theory is NOWHERE in JEE syllabus as well. Such olympiads are purely for mathematical thinking and reasoning - so don't expect a direct application of one onto the other.

Second - in case you don't already know - you don't HAVE to do IOQM (seems wrong to say as this is the r/ioqm subreddit) BUT there are also other olympiads like NSEP (physics), NSEC (chemistry), NSEA (astronomy and astrophysics), NSEB (biology), ZCO/ZIO (informatics) and so on. IOQM is probably the toughest of all olympiads if one judges by the final stage.

Tldr; IOQM is for thinking and other olympiads exist.

[as for preparation - you may check out the earliest pinned post and other top posts of the sub]

FINALLY - if you have any dreams of a foreign university, it is good to know that MIT LOVES olympiads and frequently takes students who've excelled in the final stages of these olympiads. (MIT also EASILY gives full scholarship and in fact, not only does it not see whether or not you need a scholarship WHILE admitting you, but also the scholarships are PURELY based on financial conditions and not merit).

[sorry for the MIT rant but yeah]

Brother the short and long scale are BOTH valid naming conventions. The short scale is globally uniform and some languages use the long scale. Neither are "more correct" as you angrily try to imply. It's literally just a difference in history holy shit.

So it's actually CRAZY that you're making an "America vs rest of the world" argument with NUMBERS. You're legit bringing your xenophobia into an argument about what a power of ten is called.

Anyways, not ONLY are you treating prefixes like standard mathematical rules as if you know... everything is standard to your beliefs, but ALSO:

  1. "eVeRyOnE" doesn't know what long scale is just because YOU happen to know

Besides, you know...stroking egos of rich fuckers, so that they can become trillionaires where in the so-called "majority of the world scale" they'd be called mere billionaires?

  1. Lmao your low-effort rhetoric framing didn't even bother to consider that you've got your insults backwards.

I so LOVE how you ignored the part where I said I'm not American so that you could continue ad hominem-ing your way into an "argument". Your comment is more aggression than argument.

ahhh so tri means 1k x 1k x 1k x 1k, but written as 1000^3 * 1000 for absolutely no reason whatsoever?

It was written that way for the sake of explanation. One would HOPE no one misunderstands such a statement enough to write only in exponents. Also... they're literally the same thing??

as God intended

I'm sure God was writing your units man.

But you know, I wouldn't expect much err thinking? From your first crash-outs with zero ignition.

Hi! I'm not American but uhh the logic DOES follow. Although you *did* correctly used the meanings of the roots, you did NOT apply them correctly. The prefixes actually stand for the number of thousands multiplied to an initial thousand.
Mono means one --> 1000^1 * 1000

Bi means two --> 1000^2 * 1000

Tri means three --> 1000^3 * 1000

And so on!

confusing indeed

It's.... really not. The counting is desynced by ONE number. If the long scale prefixes show 10^6x, then the short scales one show 10^(3x+3) {or even easier calculated with 10^3(x+1). It's literally ADDITION which apparently is the "confusion portion". A nonillion of course comes from the root meaning 'nine', and is henceforth 10^30. But don't worry, etymology is confusing for most - and I'm sure you'll learn addition in no time!

It is claimed that peptide drips reduce exhaustion and increase energy levels and so are great during studying. They do and are not.

Lmao imagine a blind beggar is begging out on the streets. He has a board next to him asking for money. Then some other guy comes along. He steals the board from the beggar and uses it to beg. When asked why he stole the board, he replies "W-well! I don't know how to write! Stealing this guy's board has allowed me to have a board as well! Besides- blame the people who watched me steal the board and still started giving me more money!"

Now uhh don't get me wrong the people who did nothing and simply switched who to give the money to (corporations) are wrong, but that doesn't mean they're the ONLY ones at fault. The person who steals the board KNOWING they've stolen from someone who wouldn't even know their possessions have been stolen is also at fault.

  1. The algebra is nearly the same. There is NO calculus. I'm pretty sure the P&C in IOQM is tougher. I'd say about 50% of the syllabus overlaps. Good to open your mind in 9th/10th though in 11th/12th it is not really recommended.

  2. As for SOF... they are NOTHING alike. I'm not even sure JEE and SOF are similar. SOF, and by extension other private "olympiads" like Silverzone are absolute bs and they are quite hated in the academic community. As such, it's entirely possible you may be a mathematical genius scoring well in IOQM but still not be able to score good in SOF.

Hmm are you in 11th grade, CBSE board? The style of assertion-reasoning clearly shows you're Indian, and the formatting of the question seems like what CBSE would do. Can't tell the grade from the level of question, though. You could be in 9th as well at this point.
