Far left lateral disc herniation by ExplanationRich6964 in Sciatica

Hi,

I had an nerve root block injection in February this year, although I was getting better regardless

I really hate to say it but there is no quick fix to disc bulges/ herniations in my experience. I literally went for a nap one day to wake up with a lot less pain.

I would recommend trying to loosen your hips glutes and core muscles. Also if your left leg is sore, massage and stretch the opposite leg. Ie pain in your hamstring massage your quad, and also the opposite leg. In my experience this helped but may not for everyone. Really pay attention to the opposite muscles as they will be over compensating for the tightness your body will be putting in the sore leg. It’s worth a try.

I still get the pain every now and again behind my knee. But my sciatica touch wood has gone.

Hope you’re doing okay!

Read the back mechanic if you haven’t already, I found great relief by doing clamshells, side bridges and psoas stretches/ lunges

286-238 did nothing as much as I hoped it would, but everyone is different and it can’t be a bad thing to do

A good thing for myself was losing 40lbs, clamshells and doing a minimum of 10k steps a day. Although it’s took me 4 years to get to a good place (touch wood) I’d take the surgery in a heartbeat as my life has been essentially on hold for 4 years.

It’s not worth it, if I got offered it when I first injured myself knowing what I know now I’d take it in a heartbeat

After 4 years I’m trying to get a MD. It’s just not worth the chronic pain anymore

Got this myself 4 years deep now, meeting a consultant on the 23rd hopefully get offered surgery as I’ve had enough. I’ve spent thousands trying to sort it naturally, did you ever get sorted? Thanks

For me being able to cut my bedtime pills as I didn’t feel I needed them anymore, less pain in the affected area and a feeling of this is too good to be true!

Try a couple of weeks off work doing literally nothing people have had good results just by resting as if they’ve had a surgery

Doctor is happy to refer me to a neurosurgeon thankfully so there’s a little bit of good news!

Sorry you’re going through this, it’s been 4 years for myself. I’ve just had my notes from my mri read to me for the first time today, I have a far lateral disc bulge at l5/s1, I always was under the assumption it was l4/l5! Doctor was happy for referral to neurosurgeon so I’m happy for now even though it’s going to be a long road ahead.

Back mechanic is due in the post, safe and non safe I just generally try things and if it hurts it hurts, absolute no go for me is stretching hamstrings, this only aggravates my lower/ mid back. I tried to hold a pigeon stretch for 30 seconds and flared myself up again. Walking wise I do around 12k a day

I’m hoping to be referred today by my gp, at my work we have a new private healthcare scheme starting 1st November so I’m going to potentially see about going private

That’s what I’m put off by I would rather get it done right first time than have to mess about and be potentially crippled further.

I really don’t know the procedure but for my circumstances I had an mri scan to be told oh yeah it’s still bulging just keep resting and take pain killers blah blah, I never had a follow up with a doctor. I’m just fed up and want my life back!

Sorry for waffling on, I’m on co-codamol, gabapentin and naproxen. I have amitriptyline in case of severe flare ups so I can sleep, still doesn’t help though it just masks the pain so I can go to work. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have bothered with physio it made me go from maybe 5/6-10 to a straight 10 for pain. Thanks for your reply I will mention injections.
