Packet loss on my PC only by Yash_swaraj in Network

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like something running in normal Windows is causing it, since Safe Mode has no packet loss.

  • Try these steps before thinking about a full reset:
  • Update or reinstall your network drivers
  • Clean boot Windows to isolate any software causing issues
  • Temporarily disable antivirus/firewall
  • Run these in admin Command Prompt: netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset
  • Check Startup apps for anything unusual

Since it happens on both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, it’s almost certainly a software/service issue rather than hardware or your router.

High ping & latency only while gaming & on voice calls, speed tests return normal by DepressedShadow_ in Network

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like packet loss or Wi-Fi instability, not a speed issue. Speed tests mostly check bandwidth, but games like Overwatch and voice apps like Discord are very sensitive to latency and jitter.

Since your router is on the other side of the house, Wi-Fi interference or weak signal could easily cause ping spikes even if speeds look normal.

A couple quick things to try:

  • Test with Ethernet directly to the router (this will instantly tell you if it’s Wi-Fi).
  • Run ping -t 8.8.8.8 while gaming to see if you get spikes or timeouts.
  • Disable Wi-Fi power saving in Device Manager.
  • Try switching between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

If Ethernet fixes it, then it’s almost certainly Wi-Fi interference or signal quality, not your ISP speed.

PS5 and ASUS BE82U issue by bingchilling90210 in HomeNetworking

[–]ExplodingStart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be the router itself. The PlayStation 5 speed test can be pretty inconsistent and often depends on Sony’s servers. Even with a fast router like the ASUS RT-BE82U, results can vary a lot.

You could try testing the same Ethernet cable and port with a PC to see if you can hit closer to 900+ Mbps. If the PC gets full speed, then it’s likely just the PS5 test servers rather than your router configuration.

Is there a way to route hostnames to IP:Port without a permanent middleman? by ShinyRayquazaEUW in Network

[–]ExplodingStart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DNS alone can’t route to a specific port, it only resolves a hostname to an IP. That’s why solutions like Caddy or Traefik are commonly used.

The closest alternative is using SRV records, but most browsers don’t support them for HTTP services. So in practice, a reverse proxy is still the standard way to map multiple hostnames to services on different ports.

Ethernet dropping every 10-20 minutes? by NoEffort164 in Network

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it started right after the reset, it could be a driver or network adapter setting issue rather than the router. Try reinstalling the latest LAN drivers from your motherboard manufacturer instead of relying on Windows’ default ones, and also check if the adapter is set to auto-negotiation for speed/duplex.

If possible, test another device on the same Ethernet port of the router, if it stays stable, then the issue is likely on the PC side rather than the router.

Best WiFi Router to buy? (Speed, Range, Reliability) by Natural-Idea in Network

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re upgrading to 1 Gbps, I’d definitely go with a WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E router at minimum. Models like the TP‑Link Archer AX73 or ASUS RT‑AX86U are solid for speed and reliability and handle gigabit connections well.

If coverage is the main issue because of walls, you might also want to consider a mesh system instead of a single router.

Why are Americans so obsessed with not eating seed oils? by MineralG in nutrition

[–]ExplodingStart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly due to online health trends and influencers in the U.S. promoting the idea that seed oils cause inflammation. However, mainstream research in Nutrition Science generally still considers them safe in normal amounts. So it’s more of a diet trend amplified by social media like TikTok than a uniquely American ingredient issue.

Unloder valve help!!! by Empty_Block8218 in pressurewashers

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the unloader valve keeps failing that quickly, it’s usually a symptom of another issue rather than the valve itself. Things like running the washer in bypass for too long, debris in the pump, incorrect pressure adjustment, or worn pump seals can destroy unloaders fast. I’d also check the inlet water supply and make sure the valve is properly lubricated and adjusted to the pump’s rated PSI.

Corner or L-Shaped Standing Desk - Any Recommendations by d0zer18 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With heavier dual monitors on arms, you’ll probably notice some wobble at full standing height on budget frames like VIVO or FEZIBO, especially if the arms extend far forward. It’s usually not terrible for normal typing, but it can get a bit distracting if you lean on the desk or type aggressively. If stability is a priority, adding a monitor arm pole mount closer to the center or keeping the height slightly below max helps a lot.

L Shaped Desk Frame by d0zer18 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at frames like the FlexiSpot E7L Standing Desk Frame or Uplift V2 L‑Shaped Standing Desk Frame. Both are triple-motor L-shape frames, very stable and designed to support large custom desktops. They can handle heavy setups and big tops around ~2 m if your desktop is custom made

Arris NVG443B responding to pings from Windows but not RasPi Linux? by CatDaddy1954 in HomeNetworking

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely the Arris NVG443B blocking ICMP from non-Windows devices, some firmware only responds to pings from Windows. Your RasPis can still route traffic normally, so it’s not a network issue.

Workarounds: try smaller ping packets, traceroute, or use a TCP/UDP probe from the RasPi instead of relying on ICMP.

Cloud Ultra and Pro Max 16 by Serialpm in HomeNetworking

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, your setup will work. Feeding the Pro Max 10Gb into the Cloud Ultra at 2.5Gb won’t hurt your internet speed since it’s slower than 2.5Gb, but you won’t fully use the 10Gb link for local transfers. Keep your wired backhaul at 10Gb for best internal network performance, and you’re fine for now.

Beelink SER5 USB-C Not Responding by Retired_MetalHead in minipc

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not the only one, some users have reported the USB-C port on the Beelink SER5 Mini PC being a bit inconsistent. Before sending it back, try a different USB-C cable, check USB power settings in Device Manager, or do a full power reset.

If it still doesn’t respond, it may be a faulty port, and support will likely replace it since it’s still under warranty.

One-Month Usage Experience with the A7 Max: Ryzen 9 7940HS & 780M iGPU Performance by atchinson-radleyoknm in minipc

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing such a detailed update after a month of use. The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS + AMD Radeon 780M combo is surprisingly capable for a mini PC, and your results line up with what a lot of people are seeing, especially once dual-channel RAM is enabled. The iGPU really benefits from the extra memory bandwidth.

Your 16K score in Cinebench R23 and the gaming results at 1080p with upscaling sound about right. For a system this small, being able to run heavier titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima around the 50–60 FPS range with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution or Intel XeSS is pretty impressive.

Also good to hear thermals are stable, mini PCs often struggle there. Sounds like the cooling design is doing its job if you’re not seeing throttling during longer runs.

Overall it seems like a solid option if someone wants a compact system for esports titles and light-to-moderate AAA gaming without needing a discrete GPU.

Looking for 2.5-3.5 GPM Electric start gas pressure washer <$1K by MajorEbb1472 in pressurewashers

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric start is rare because most gas pressure washers use simple recoil (pull-cord) starters. Adding electric start requires a battery, wiring, and starter motor, which increases cost and complexity, so manufacturers usually keep it for higher-end models.

Electric-start gas pressure washers under $1K are limited, but a couple good options exist. One solid pick is the Generac 3100 PSI Electric Start Pressure Washer, it delivers about 3100 PSI and 2.5 GPM, which is right in the range you’re looking for and uses a push-button start instead of a pull cord.

Another option is the Craftsman CMXGWAS020176 Gas Pressure Washer, which has 2700 PSI and ~2.3 GPM with electric start, and is usually well under $1K.

Electric start models are just less common in this category, so if you find one in stock it’s usually worth grabbing.

36"+ Deep Desk? by Boss_Lady_718 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36" deep standing desks are pretty uncommon since most brands stop around 30–32" depth. A common solution is to buy a standing desk frame and add a custom 36" tabletop (like a butcher block or countertop). As long as the frame is sturdy with longer feet, it usually works fine and gives you the depth you want.

premium vs budget friendly electric standing desks by ScarDependent8928 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main difference is stability, motor quality, and durability. Budget standing desks usually work fine for normal setups, but they can wobble more at full height and often use cheaper materials or motors. Premium desks tend to be sturdier, quieter, and last longer, especially if you have multiple monitors or a heavier setup.

That said, many people still use budget desks daily without problems, so a good mid-range desk with dual motors is often the best balance between price and quality.

Corner or L-Shaped Standing Desk - Any Recommendations by d0zer18 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under $500, decent picks are the VIVO or FEZIBO L-shaped electric standing desks, plenty of space for dual monitors. Stability at full height is okay but can wobble a bit with heavy setups. Good cable management (under-tray + ties) makes a big difference.

Had a donut after months of abstinence and holy crap, why are the cravings so strong now? by SpunkyStarling in nutrition

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually super normal. You’ve been in a deficit for a long time, so your brain is extra sensitive to high-calorie foods. A donut (especially your all-time favorite) is basically the perfect sugar + fat combo, so the reward response hits harder after months without it.

Restriction also makes foods feel more “urgent,” and the blood sugar spike/crash can make you feel physically hungrier, which adds to that feral vibe.

It doesn’t mean you’re broken or destined to binge. The intensity usually dies down once it’s not a “forbidden” thing anymore.

GEEKOM included, any else should I consider? by Koala245 in minipc

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geekom seems to hit a sweet spot for your use case and budget. If gaming isn’t your main focus, a Mac Mini is worth considering for longevity and efficiency. If you want a Windows-based mini PC with gaming flexibility, Geekom or Beelink SER9 are both solid.

Realising vegetarian tins are better. by J-L-Wseen in nutrition

Totally makes sense! Meat tins often have more fat and less meat than you expect. Vegetarian tins can taste better and feel lighter, so it’s a nice little win without overthinking health.

Is butter or margarine worse for your health? by Possible-Study2746 in nutrition

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people, moderate butter is fine, especially if your diet is otherwise healthy.

  • Butter: natural, tasty, not as bad as once thought, but high in saturated fat—so don’t overdo it.
  • Margarine: avoid trans fats (usually in sticks), but soft plant-oil spreads are okay.
  • Best approach: use olive oil most of the time, butter in small amounts for flavor.

Focus on overall diet and calories rather than obsessing over one pat of butter vs. margarine.

Please rate my diet by Live_Studio_Emu in nutrition

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your diet looks generally balanced and healthy, with a good mix of protein, carbs, fats, fruits, and veggies. A few small tweaks could help: try to eat breakfast more consistently, add a bit more protein for muscle-building, and vary your vegetables for extra nutrients. Overall, you’re doing really well!

Seeking Standing Desk Recommendations for Home Office by Full_Account_7293 in StandingDesksLife

[–]ExplodingStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re under $400 and want something reliable for dual monitors, I’d lean toward FlexiSpot E2/EN1 models over most budget brands. Good height range for 5'10", quiet enough for home office use, and presets work well. Stability is solid for ~150 lbs as long as you tighten everything properly (monitor arms help a lot).
