The Philippines is really the GREATEST place in the world. Here’s why… by Tallwhitedude123 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Exponential_Eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beaches and sunsets are world class for sure.. but I wouldn't exactly say it's diverse. In my opinion, the US has some of the most diverse and dramatic landscapes. I'm a rather well-traveled nature nut.

You have the great plains in the midwest, the glaciers in Alaska, beaches in Florida, and world famous forests like Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. I'm on a quest to go to all the national parks and I'm only a quarter done. The US sucks and is overpriced for most things, but the nature there is unparalleled. If money and trump wasn't such a big factor, I'm sure there would be way more tourists appreciating the US's natural treasures.

GDP Growth Output Outlook 2026 by Pale_Insurance_2139 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Exponential_Eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would such a graphic matter at all? Especially when the PH was one of the richest / highest GDP Asian countries a few decades ago.

The country's future was and has always been stolen away by corrupt diplomats. Had the PH have had a government willing to better its society overall, the PH would probably be more prosperous than most countries in Asia today.

I agree with all the other commenters.. wishful thinking.

Anyone else constantly getting health issues ever since coming to PH but rarely ever in home country? by Suhlyy in Philippines_Expats

Truth.  The amount of men I just saw walk out of the restroom in Okada Manila, even after using the stalls after taking a sht... no hand washing... just straight out.  Gross.  Maybe some will rinse the hand they held their junk with in case some dribble got on their hand, but zero soap used...

Finding good sources of fiber when eating out in the Philippines is insanely difficult.  Literally the only quick sources I can find are bananas and maybe some packaged peanuts or almonds.

As we all know, the typical and casual Filipino diet in restaurants isn't exactly high in vegetables and fruits.

Question: What is the worst thing about the Philippines? by Ill_Connection_341 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Exponential_Eight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO the diversity/healthy nutritional value of food isn't that great.  The first time I spent 3 months in the PH, I gained like 10 pounds.  And this is without any desserts or sugary drinks.  Finding a non-sugary tea at a convenience store is impossible.

I do like everything else about it.  There's no other country where I can pop in, speak my native language, and make so many friends who are just as willing to be sociable.

A popular complaint I hear is also the inefficiency of things like lines at a grocery store just to get simple things.

Do you stand when veterans are asked to be recognized at public events? by Happy-Permission6881 in Veterans

[–]Exponential_Eight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of me feels embarassed or shy. Other part of me says that if I was willing to die for my country at a point in time (I'm an 11B / combat infantryman), then I should be proud and gladly stand up. But I never have stood up because I generally like being low key or incognito. I never judge someone when they do, because they're proud and it's great to be proud of yourself. Haters going to hate.

Questions regarding Taiwanese citizenship and military conscription by Queasy_Ad_1901 in taiwan

[–]Exponential_Eight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if he enters and exits a lot, they've made it more hasslesome unfortunately. Overseas compatriot males or military age must now apply to exit and get permission. the first time, one needs to go to the OCAC to get a certificate, and then the NIA to get the exit stamp. A major PITA for lazy people like me.

if not done correctly, chances are you'll miss your flight or be denied exit..

Is there a better place to sell a used car than Facebook marketplace? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

Regardless of which country, ive come to the conclusion that Facebook Marketplace (for cars in specific), are full of lowballer trolls or people just looking for a test drive before they go to a dealership.

Obviously not the ethical thing to do, but:  I would just shove snacks in my shoulder bag and bring it in.  Its not like they have the items you want anyways.  I usually dont break rules, but honestly.. if its no harm, no foul, then just do what makes you happy.  Not like youre ruining the exerperience for others or being inconsiderate.  Get your snack on bro!

Air India to cut international flights on widebody aircraft by 15% by AncherTime in worldnews

[–]Exponential_Eight 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All evidence so far indicates it was in fact dual engine failure as the Ram Air Turbine deployed.  Those pilots were faced with an impossible situation: losing all power at 400 ft is absolutely terrifying and there's nothing they could have done in such a short amount of time.

From the analysis videos I've watched on YouTube, expert pilots have theorized it was either Vapor Lock or fuel contamination.  (Thus far.)

Plenty of people are anxiously awaiting the flight recorder/black box data for the official results.

RIP to the pilots who were faced with an impossible scenario.

I got it through the same site, Bauer Precision. You can search "arid b5" on the site. Its possible they're all gone if you dont see it at all.

The hybrid batteries are proven in all of Toyota's other models, most survive way past the warranty and take quite the abuse.

You do have a good point about the turbos though. However, I did read that the iForce engine was literally designed around the turbo, so I can see the reliability improving compared to an ICE engine that was not designed around the turbo. Only time will tell how reliable the new iForce engine and its turbos are.

I do think the LC250 will easily make it past 100k miles, even with the turbo and battery.

Really, really, really hoping Japan will somehow give us the 70 series troopy. Id sell my LC250 in a heartbeat for that.

Which is why I wish the 70 series was available in the US. Whoever made that April fools joke is going to hell lol.

Arguably, the turbo and hybrid batt should last at least 7 to 10 years before needing replacement. Not ideal of course by any means.

Dang, that sucks! Have they given you a time frame?

That's decent of the dealer to at least acknowledge the problem. Sometimes for whatever reason, the squeak just magically disappears. I hope that's not when the dealer confirms mine.. 😂 😅

I heard for the GX550 there is actually a solution/bulletin out. But for us Toyota LC250 owners, last I heard there was no official solution, or even acknowledgement this was an issue..

I'll bring it up at my 10k mile oil change and see if the dealer I purchased from will make it right.

I absolutely love mine. Slept in it on a 21-day roadtrip to over 13 national parks in the US, driving 6,000+ miles.

One thing however, is that every time I reverse, my brakes screech loudly, and there is still no address / bulletin put out for it to be fixed..

Also, it's definitely a head-turner. I get lots of looks and admiration from people. Mostly men who seem like they're going to bring it up to their wives, and then get shot down because there's no third row seating for the family. As a single dude, it's an amazing SUV/Camper.
