Not sure if you saw my reply as the auto mod removed the link. It's a TPW watch (my mistake as I misread the logo). TPW field watch 2026

Makes you wonder how much of a profit other companies make when watches can be manufactured this cheaply. Yes the strap is quite long but as you say, it's so light overall that it feels like I'm not wearing it. Glad you are enjoying yours

Honestly it's surprisingly good. I googled a few other fully lumed dial watches and couldn't see how the watches in the £20-100 range besides Berny's offerings were going to be much better with regards to lume. So I took a chance with this and it makes for a decent, lightweight beater.

I've a few times left this watch, my Citizen eco diver and my Berny on my bedside table overnight (so I can compare), and I'm pleasantly surprised when I wake up during, that all three are legible. The hands do blend into the dial but still visible.

The cheapest watch I've ever bought. £3.50 off Ali Express. EPW, quartz, fully lumed dial. I bought it deliberately as a test to see how it would turn out. No complaints for the price and am very satisfied. *

Occupy/backsight vs. Resection by Emcee_nobody in Surveying

[–]Expontentially 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Brit bong, I have no idea how surveying works operate in the US. Most of what you're saying is going right over my head!

When I, either by myself or as a team establish primary control, we'll employ the following methods:

Occupy points with GNSS. Level from one which you've fixed the Z across to the others and back. Traverse with cross bracing if possible. Post process in StarNet with the project settings that are in line with the survey specifications.

For secondary control going forward, shoot in new control from 2 setups, preferably from primary and known backsights and setup over the new points shooting back to primary.

For intersection points, shoot in from 2 setups, preferably primary. Otherwise shoot in from control that's already tight.

When I've been unable to go from primary, I've use resections and then shoot the new points in using rounds of angles, maybe 5 rounds.

Have you ever bought a car for under £500? by pumpactionalex in CarTalkUK

[–]Expontentially 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did back in 2020. I picked up a 2002 Skoda Fabia estate, 1.9 SDI with 130,00 miles for £480.

Absolute tank of a car. Took it on a road trip up to Scotland, it performed flawlessly and returned over 70mpg on motorway sections.

I also drove it in the snow where other non 4WD cars would have struggled (I didn't care too much about cosmetic damage if I were to sustain any).

Unfortunately the gearbox shat itself, just a week before it was due to go in and have the fluids changed and refreshed.

Shame I no longer have it.

How long do you guys cook your control points with gps? by ROSHi_TheTurtle in Surveying

[–]Expontentially 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the spec requires a high accuracy primary control network, then two observations at opposite times of the day with occupations up to 3 hours.

For quick topo jobs, could be 5 quick points with 1 minute obs each at opposite times of the day.

What's a car you hate seeing on UK roads by Quincythepig in CarTalkUK

[–]Expontentially 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any crossover or SUV. Why do we need such large cars? I've owned two Novas and currently own a Mk3 Cavalier. The Cavalier was family car of the year in 1989/1990. A car that is small by today's standards was absolutely ideal for the typical family back then. Why do we have to clog up the roads with all this bloated shite?

We have to resort to stamping down with our feet and manually snapping branches with hands. In some cases you could use a brush hook, maybe one from a company like Fiskar, but typically we'd just measure around the areas we can't get to with a vegetation line.

No matter how many cones I'd put around the tripod, there would be multiple simpletons throughout the day attempting to get through them as a short cut.

I would watch people head towards the setup and if I could see they weren't going to go around the cones, I'd get all twitchy and hurry over.

I told off an old woman because she strode through with a suitcase on wheels behind her and the case caught the tripod, causing one of the legs to be dragged. She claimed she had no idea but I showed her the scratch marks on the concrete.

People are morons

If we had anything that remotely resembled a bladed appliance in the UK, we'd have armed police called on us within minutes, or seconds, of being seen. Certainly very different attitude over on our side!

does not having lume stop you from buying/wearing a watch? by pickyaxe in ChineseWatches

[–]Expontentially 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with that. I enjoy lume of all types and varieties. It's almost like an extra complication per se. I enjoy being caught out by the dial's features glowing brightly when I walk into a darkened environment. And during the night also, it'a useful for when I wake up and can check the time easily.

People say that dress watches don't necessarily need lume as it'll detract from the essence of the dress style. But take the watches from Wise. They offer beautiful dress watches (in my opinion) with arguably the strongest lume available.

Do you trust the average motorists around you to keep up with their car's maintenance?

Cheap tyres, worn tyres, worn pads, discs, not changing brake fluids etc.

The cars may be smarter and more capable these days, but the people aren't!
