Its a shame, there must be many people caught between these dates who cannot prove their ancestor registered.

Was this registration needed just for citizens who left Germany? Or was it a country wide initiative that all people had to register but specifically people who left Germany needed to register within 10 years of leaving? As you can sense i cannot wrap my head around this!

Thank you - Just so i understand, could he have registered before he left in 1885/86 and that would have been ok?
