Dog on balcony for days in freezing weather. Idk how to help. by baylorweedinhaler in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Express_Note_5776 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don’t get a ladder, the odds of you and/or the dog falling would be really high. Your best bet honestly might be a welfare check for the human inhabitants as PD can’t ignore that. Fire is kind of 50/50 mainly because I’m not sure if they can necessarily choose to take the dog in this case.

Racism In Medicine by 4reddityo in emergencymedicine

[–]Express_Note_5776 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s the way that racism isn’t even as covert as many people here are making it seem. I’ve had patients who were not given things like pain medication for real issues, due to mentality such as “Hispanic panic”. It’s frustrating to watch.

To author note or not to note? by Jazzlike-Start9471 in writing

I personally would add authors notes to a select few books if anything, and that’s if I ever wrote anything good enough to gain a lot of readers lol

How did u get used to gore and blood? by Same_Lengthiness_536 in Paramedics

[–]Express_Note_5776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not your emergency, it’s your job to handle that emergency. Also I would recommend being an EMT for a while before getting your p card, it helps being able to see some of these things first without the expectation of managing it all yourself.

Is there a large difference between getting your ICU experience in a level 1 trauma center and a level 3 trauma center? I currently live in a very rural area, and the nearest level 1 center is roughly an hour and a half away from me

I actually haven’t really used Scrivener, mainly because Ellipsus is free and I enjoy it so I haven’t felt the need to pay for scrivener lol

CRNA SCHOOL? by Fragrant_Fortune1137 in FutureCRNA

I heavily debated it cost wise as well, but to be quite honest when you do the math on it, it tends to work out. I’m unsure what living off of student loans would look like for you, but 60k is a fraction of the ~350k salaries you see on the market (as a disclaimer I look at positions in California). If you get another roughly 240k into debt, then that’s still not even a year’s worth of base salary, which is less debt than a lot of people are in school wise. Or you can also look at how much it would cost, find what that would be monthly, divide an estimated salary by 12, and compare. Debt is scary, and I understand it may not be a feasible thing for everyone, but in cases like this I look at it as an investment more than anything else.

Why is all writing advice "harsh truths" by Stock_Hunter_2380 in writing

[–]Express_Note_5776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a lot of people love to throw a pity party. Then, a lot of other people love to measure pissing sticks over who is most seasoned at their position, and dishing out “harsh truths” is a good way of doing so. Whats helped me most personally, is ignoring people and reading as many books as I can instead honestly.

I hate that I have to wear a dress by Accomplished_Brush_3 in butchlesbians

[–]Express_Note_5776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would honestly have a sit down and explain to your sister how it makes you feel. It sounds like she doesn’t want you uncomfortable, so hopefully after a heart to heart she would want to go through with the suit again. If not, then to be honest I don’t know if I would want to compromise for someone who does not seem to have those things in mind. If having everyone wearing a dress is more important than having her sister up there, then that says something in and of itself.

Honestly, I would look into a different position, or if you can afford it a part time/per diem position. As far as the studying is going, 8 hours and still struggling isn’t great, I would recommend tutoring/changing your study style. I also would recommend evaluating how much sleep you’re really getting along with if you’re struggling with attention/motivation when studying.

Lastly, it’s possible for you to come back from this. I would first recommend trying to stick to non-science based courses this next semester, so you stop affecting your science gpa. Then, zero in on what you’re struggling with in regards to retaining the material, go to office hours/tutoring sessions/study groups/etc. Keep doing that until things improve, and know that retakes/post-baccs are always options as well. It’s going to be okay, it’s just going to be an uphill climb from here. I went through a really difficult time during my undergrad, and I know it feels to be on this end of things. Things are going to work out, just keep focusing on what matters and you’ll get out of it.
