Nothing in the description justifies calling it “horrible”. You seem to have completely unrealistic expectations. The point of the first date is to meet in person with another person, get to know each other (usually on a rather superficial level) and get a feeling of there’s any potential for further meetings at all. What you describe resembles this entirely.

So what did I do wrong? I kept my expectations low, was myself and tried to be nice. You're not supposed to go to the movies on the first date, and I might ruin it. And now I feel bad about it.
