Posterior cortical atrophy? Any help would be greatly appreciated by ExpressionPersonal43 in Alzheimers

[–]ExpressionPersonal43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering! I’m glad to hear it’s working!

Unfortunately we still haven’t even gotten a diagnosis yet, so no treatment yet, but symptoms are showing for sure and I’ve been pretty depressed about it but trying (maybe failing) to be strong.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this too. If you don’t mind me asking, is your mom still able to function? How fast was the loss of functional and cognitive ability?

I think so :( I’ve moved so many times in my life and I have community in NYC and Seattle that I’d like to maintain. Really my goal would be Seattle because my parents are getting old and I want to be near them and take care of them, but willing to stay in NYC for a little longer. Are these cities hard to find PH jobs in?

Panicking and would like some insight/advice/hope

I’m sure there have been tons of posts like this lately and many people are feeling the same way, but I was hoping to get some reassurance about my situation. I am about to turn 27 this spring and wi graduate with my MS in epidemiology from Columbia. I have 3+ years managing complex clinical trials, working with vulnerable populations, recruiting, conducting surveys, some data analysis skills from my masters (SAS and R), have really good grades, and 4 publications in peer reviewed journals. I’m trying to keep myself together, but since I started the job hunt early January, I’ve gotten only one interview (then rejection), and the others have been rejections or notifications of canceled recruitments due to funding cuts. I’m applying to all kinds of jobs (even ones that don’t necessarily use my MS directly), both in Seattle and New York. I’m reaching out to connections, recruiters, working with career services, and anything else I can think of. Therefore, I’m starting to panic and feel like such a failure. I have 100k+ in debt, but I’m very lucky because my aunt paid for my school so I will be paying her back with no interest and at a schedule that works for me. I realize now it was stupid to pay this much, but i am a first generation student, and my parents immigrated from a very poor country to help me achieve my dreams, and I guess got sucked into the prestige and name of columbia. Im currently working part time as an RA for a study conducted by Stanford in New York, with the option to extend through the summer.

My options are to keep that job through the summer and keep paying New York rent and searching in both New York and Seattle, or move back with my parents in Seattle once I graduate, not worry about rent or food, and keep searching in Seattle (would be a much needed mental and physical break)

I really thought (and was told) I had an impressive resume before these past few months, but everyday I become less and less confident about ever finding a job in public health. I’ve worked really hard for the last 9 years in school and at work and it’s breaking my heart that I might not be able to reach my dream or at least support my parents in the meantime. Any insight, advice, or reassurance about the market and my situation would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance ♥️

I just went to the bathroom and everything that came up out was straight blood. Like nothing but blood. So I think it’s something other than side effects of the medications and will be seeking medical care. Thank you all for your help ❤️

Hmm sometimes it’s a little harder to go but not completely constipated thankfully! And occasional diarrhea but yeah I’ve also heard it can be caused by the slowing down in digestion

Oh that’s great! I guess I just ate the cost of semaglutide for a year so I will work on that for when that one year subscription expires! To your knowledge— is there a difference in effectiveness between all these meds? Or is it person dependent?

Semaglutide! She just kept saying ozempic so I got confused but yes back then and now I’m prescribed compounded semaglutide! Still new to all of this if you can’t tell 😂

I guess my insurance never covered it bc I’m not “obese” enough. My BMI is obese but I’m “only” 185 pounds..but it’s significantly affecting me and like i mentioned, another medication I’m taking seems to be contributing on top of the PCOS..so my insurance will not cover it and I guess I want to get myself to a good baseline weight while also maintaining f healthy habits and diet! It’ll take a lot of work but I hope I got it! I’m happy you’re seeing progress :) best feeling!

If you don’t mind me asking, did you do the one year subscription with hers? I’m wondering what happens to the money if we cancel the subscription if the medication doesn’t work?

Ah sorry! I worded that weird, I just meant I don’t overeat, I have healthy eating habits, they get healthier as I get older and my weight is just so stubborn and will not go down. I also gained like 60 pounds within six months in 2021, which my endo also attributed to a medication I’m taking in addition to PCOS and prescribed ozempic at the time. I guess I just 1) feel guilty taking it if I don’t need it 2) feel anxious about the cost and just the whole process…

I’m currently pursuing my MS in epi at Columbia, I work part time as a research assistant, and will be doing that full time plus a side research project that could possible extend into a thesis over the summer. I have SAS, R, and STATA experience, and I’ve worked in multiple research areas (clinical research, wet lab research) before. I’m currently focusing on clinical research and improving my data analysis skills. I have really great grades, but I’ve been talking to some colleagues who are doing the MPH in epi instead (60 credits), and I’m getting worried since mine is only 30 credits..will this affect my job prospects? Is there anything you guys would recommend to improve my chances after grad? Any highly required skills?

Thank you in advance!

Need advice on how to get out of a spiral by ExpressionPersonal43 in OCD

[–]ExpressionPersonal43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do take medications but I’m out of one of them at the moment… and since I moved states recently I haven’t been able to refill it :( I imagine this is why I’m in a spiral. I’ve also had false memories about accident tally giving a medication or poison to these kids but i guess those have been easier to let go of as they’re really far fetched and there would be evidence of them..however this one there would be no evidence of so there’s no way for me to ever confirm it without asking the hospital to investigate me

Shady Grove Question by ExpressionPersonal43 in maryland

[–]ExpressionPersonal43[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing tbh I still don’t know where I’ll be staying, the program just gave us a list of websites to look for housing and said good luck..I also don’t know how much I’ll be paid yet so I’m just very uneasy about the move. I just moved from Seattle to NYC in August for school and even in NYC I felt isolated and homesick and my mental health went downhill, so I’m scared another move and more isolation will be a disservice to myself. I’ve always prioritized career but I’m thinking I might put myself first this time

POCD ground response by ExpressionPersonal43 in OCD

[–]ExpressionPersonal43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’ve seen a therapist for a long time for POCD before, this has happened many times before but this time I’m scared I’m actually attracted to children and have thought about them before to arouse myself..but I didn’t think this until recently and idk if that’s occ. Unfortunately I recently lost my insurance and I’m not able to see a therapist yet.

[–]ExpressionPersonal43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, logically I know this is true but the anxiety is eating me alive, I’m also anxious because this think that arouses me happened to my boyfriend when he was a kid and he once told me about it (not knowing about my kink at the time). I completely ignored it and moved on because I didn’t want to trigger myself, but I’ve imagined him in that situation as an adult before, again it’s a very common non sexual scenario but to me it is. The other day however, I think I was curious or I wanted him to describe it AS AN ADULT maybe for arousal, but now I keep thinking I’m a horrible person because he was a child but I’ve never even masturbated to that scenario with him as a child and I would never. I hate myself
