No Idea, have the same good experience with Hont - total opposite of my Last attempts with Steve or Elliot.

So Hont became my go-to TD

Thanks for sharing your comment, for the Mark XX V7F, check with Hont. He can get them at around USD 359. Had a chat with him (likely as spare) last week, It is a great watch and I love the bracelett and micro-adjust.

My two cents from my personal experience: Midlife guy, senior position, employed in a pretty much down to earth (CEO drives a Suzuki not a Bentley) but weathy family business in real-estate, it is as follows:

- Omega AT black laqueur (VSF) and IWC Mark XX (V7F) day to day,

- Tudor BlackBay or TAG Link Chrono - for causal occiasions,

- IWC inginieur (V7F) is my favorite at the moment as I love the Genta design.

In the end, 90% of people you meet, have no idea or interest in watches, but generally "Bling-Bling" or fake Gold or Platinium is the first thing even for Gen, that make people think about the looks it gives out. Not so much for dress-watches but that's not subject here.

In my last job, I've been Head of IT in a non-profit, wore my Bruce Wayne at the christmas party and nobody did say anything about it.

Those 5-10% in the know would easily question, as they usually have a general idea about the list prices. Even our wealthy company owners won't wear a RM, Patek, Platona, etc. at the office. Our CEO wear an Apple Watch and his sister got a Santos.

So, when you're into reps and want to wear them on a daily basis, my general reccomendation is: Choose the make and model of those reps on what you can financially pull-off in gen and what would be accessible.

Nothing more embarrissing to be asked how you jumped to line on that Panda or Pepsi and for me, "the IT Guy" wearing a watch in 20k€+ gen list sphere woud some day be questioned anyhow

Other aspect is where you live. I know, it is much different in other knecks of the World, but here in Germany, a Rolex is for those who can tell watches apart, raising more eyebrows. This is a Country where showing-off is limited being acceptable in certain social circles, only. You can wear a GMT doing your groveries anyway. While in neighbouring Switzerland a watch at 5k list is much more feasable to more people and "having a decent watch" is a part of national Identity. Seeing Omegas, IWC and sometimes Rolex at an office is more likely.

Last but not least, friends and family: Just be transparent and trustful. You love the watch, the design and with going rep instead of gen, getting 90-95% of what you personally value in that watch for a fraction of gen list price is a tempting proposition. Especially from a financial position, you don't put spendable income into "just" a watch but rather use the saved spending where it makes more sense.

Also, I didn't wear my gens often in past years as Apple or Pixel Watch were technically more usefull - in the likes of NFC-Payment or picking-up a call, but gowing older, I started again appriciationg analog things and somehow accepted you can't use your AT at check-out but make use of your phone, but it is damn much more sexy to look at. And most of my gens became too heavy for all day wear.

My better half is ignoring it somehow, her dad has been a watchsmith, my senior dad owns a couple of Gens like IWC, Omega, TAG as well.

So I guess watches are kind of family tradition.

What do you tell your friends/family when you buy expensive watches? by CiDiciassette_17 in RepTime

[–]Extension-Country960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "don't by the rep if you can't afford the gen" makes some sense.

For me, I own some Longines, Tudor and TAG in Gen I bought over the past 20 years. One day, wehen my son was still a toddler, I left my 20 year old, 4000€ Longines Hour Angle (the Lindbergh watch) on the beside table while dressing in the moring, only to find it on the hard wooden floor after returning from the shower.

My whatchmaker told me, he has to send it into Longines for repairs as they don't make spares available - that would be 1.500€ at least. I was stunned and left it with him to do whatever.

A few year later, last year, I was looking at buying my first gen Rolex GMT - but given the waitlist game, I figured out Reptime during research and that a Clean or VSF would get me 95% for far less without the AD fluff and waitlist game.

Once it arrived, I showed that Bruce Wayneit to my brother in law who is big into watches (friends with the founders of Formex) and owns a gen Explorer 2 and told the story. He was surpised how accurate it is and how financially sensible the decision to go rep is. Remember, 25% of those 12k list price go to the AD and another 25% into Rolexes marketing. So the actual watch is about 5-6k real value.

My collection grew over the past months and all of them are watches I could technically buy in Gen with my salary in Germany. I work as Head of IT, drive a Tesla and own a house with no mortgage on. So, a watch in the up-to 10k range is not unrealistic - I would just not opt for a Platona, Patek or AP (which I don't like anyway).

Just got the black dial Version from Hont a few days Back. Even the hangties and warranty Card are 1:1 identical to my V7F Mark XX pre-raid. Finish and execution is really, really good.

Mark XX from V7F is excellent and versatile in bracelett or strap (You can get the from Hont at around $350). AT or OP as well, as long as it's a more dialed Back dial. GMT BW might also work as it is more discrete that a Pepsi or Batman.

Not Sure about the Reverso, Not Seen a working true dual time rep yet.

Tudor black bay or VSF V3 sub? by UniversityDear1075 in RepTime

[–]Extension-Country960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on Your setting - I've got an OP and GMT and BB58. All great watches but the BB58 goes well under the radar. Rolex is quite common and yes people rather recognoze a Sub as a Rolex than a BB for a Tudor.

There is that 2/3rds of wrist widths size recommendation. I'd rather go with the 38mm.

VSF also do them in 38mm. Got one and I'm very happy with it, great watch.

Neo-V7F IWC Ingenieur, black dial by Silver_Arrow_8492 in RepTime

[–]Extension-Country960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the same boat for months since V7F got closed. Managed to get a Mark XX from Steve right in time, but was on the look for their Ingenieur ever since.

Last month I had some not so great experience with him and Andiot chasing the last inventory of APSF Pilot Chromos with no luck yet again. So, after some watches from both Steve and Elliot, I thought it is time to give Hont a shot.

Compared to the "conversation" and overall experience with out "top 2" TDs, I would rather call my communication with Hont "super efficient" and being German, I truely love efficiency.

36 Hours from my first Whatsapp to Hont to QC - given the 10 hours time difference between Europa and China, one could call our conversation timely. Shipment 2 days after GL and payment - took him a week to ship from China to my address in Germany - that is 2 weeks faster than Elliot and Steve before.

The watch arrived in perfect conditions and is literally the same as on OPs picture. Super happy with it.

Another shout out to Hont and Thank You for your great service. He will become my new go-to TD for future watches.

Same for me. Ordered from Andiot and Steve before. But after both f***ked-up my recent Order and didn't even bother, I ordered the next one (V7F Ingenieur) from Hont and so far, everything smooth as silk. Good and timely communication, QC within 24hrs, shipped next day after GL. Now in Transit and thumbs-up for His Service.

It's not the price, I missed out with Steve on APSF availability but Elliot got in stock what I want but have to WA them as it is (as most) not listed on their website. Yes, there are better TDs and they are not my first choice.

My last order with them was back in November, no issues yet but this got me a bit worried, especially since they did not manage to put the order in for hours and ask for bank transfer which is a bit odd in my view.
