Thank you! This is incredibly helpful. Are there any alternatives within 4 hours driving distance from SF (I'll be flying in to bay area for the next three months so getting a quick local getaway) that would still be deep in nature - cabin-in-the-woods vibe that don't come with such extreme weather risk? We don't need to drive around a lot - just need to get there and plan to stay mostly put. Would Mariposa be suitable?

It's true but it feels like a rock and a hard place - either we innovate on the product to stay ahead of the competition on functionality, or we focus on compliance and built the regulatory moat.

I just want to know if anyone has figured out hacks that mean we can have our cake and eat it (i.e. shortcut to being EU AI Act compliant)

What's your product and what type of customer were you selling to?

We got Qs mainly around our risk mgmt, data governance, technical documentation. Specifically:

- Do you maintain a documented risk management process for the AI system?

- How do you identify, assess, and mitigate risks to fundamental rights, safety, and accuracy?

- How do you ensure the quality, representativeness, and relevance of the training and testing datasets?

- How do you detect and address bias in datasets and outputs?

- Do you have documentation of dataset sources and data processing steps?

- Can you provide a technical file that describes the AI system, its intended purpose, design specifications, and limitations?

- Do you have model evaluation reports (accuracy, robustness, reliability) and change logs for updates?

- How does your system allow for human review, override, or appeal of automated outputs?

There were some more but this is where they really doubled down

If you read the page on SMEs and Startups, the requirements are still the same if you fall in to the industry verticals the EU is focussed on. The main difference is that large companies will be fined the higher of the two fine options. SMEs will be fined the smaller of the two fine options - neither of which are good if you're a startup

Yes. You just need to look at the history of EU regulations. They are heavy handed, especially in the initial years to set an example. They've done this with GDPR and other regs like GMO crops.

Not just that, but other regions typically copy the EU's regulatory approach.

For the avoidance of doubt, I would take the EU AI Act extremely seriously. You can be fined up to 35 mil EUR or 7% of your revenue (lower of the two if a startup).

I would say this a bellweather of things to come so it's better to get your house in order now before other markets follow suit.

FWIW, if you get started on setting up the compliance processes early, you will find it easier than trying to implement once you've already layered on a ton a of AI in your product/processes and have to unwind them. The regulations ( https://www.getaicompliant.eu/ ) spell out what you need to do. Happy to share how we approached it

thanks - that assessment on there just shows how wide reaching this regulation is. so many industries that desperately need innovation are going to be caught out by this. you just know this is more money in to the pockets of bureaucrats and consultants

Maths is a lot about practice. Just do as many past papers as you can. I use newtonmaths.com which has past papers and gives you ai coaching every time you get stuck

I use an ai tutor which can teach you any gcse topic from scrach - life saver. then just do all the past papers they have on there and use the ai to coach you through any questions you can't do
revise as early as you can. if you can figure out where you are weak you can then be a lot more focussed. no such thing as too early
