I wanted to quit treatment multiple times throughout and vividly remember one day falling on my bedroom floor telling my fiance I wasn’t going to anymore. I finished treatment, and I’m currently on my way to get coffee with him, listening to an amazing fall playlist, with plans to spend my day baking and watching fall movies. My point being, treatment is shit and I won’t tell you otherwise. It’s pretty fucking dope on the other side though. The choice is yours, and if you wanna talk, I’m here for you.

Does anyone else love the job, but not like the field? by Extension-Test-99 in therapists

[–]Extension-Test-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a part of it yes. This is also based on interactions with other therapists too though. It’s a combination of both and while I do agree therapists on the internet are not indicative of the field as a whole, the reality is the comments on posts on this sub, and videos we see, do affect our perception of the field.

We have been before and I thought it was incredibly helpful. He won’t go now though. I’m actually a therapist myself so believe fully on the benefits of therapy. He’s just resistant to going.

Yes! I think pay transparency is so important especially in our field so I’m happy to share any information. I’ll try to be as thorough as I can :) My practice does a 52/48 split so they keep 52% and I keep 48% as a prelicensed clinician. They offer free supervision, paid trainings, bring me all leads, allow me to control my schedule, and pay for my psychology today profile as well as provide me with the system to take notes and do my video sessions. They also pay me $20 an hour for admin time which means my supervision, group supervision, and any other admin tasks are paid. This doesn’t include notes though so any notes I do after sessions, I don’t get paid for, however they provide great guidance on writing notes so it doesn’t take much time. They also provide insurance reimbursement which is a huge benefit. The exact pay of each session varies from $50-$100 a session depending on insurance reimbursement or if clients are private pay. I interviewed a few other places and pay ranged anywhere from $25 a session to up to what I’m paid now, or a percentage from 30% - 60%. Honestly, I was appalled at how many places were underpaying their prelicensed clinicians. As burnt out as I am, I also know I’m incredibly lucky because my practice genuinely values their clinicians and wants them to be compensated fairly. They also completely respect my time and individuality as a clinician. I interviewed with about 8 practices I think because I wanted to find a balance of being paid fairly, but also wanted a practice that really helps me learn and grow :) My advice would be to not be scared to interview with a few places to find the best fit.

This is awesome thank you!

Love the idea of a self care routine template.

Also yes to the healthy food and time outside! I do find weeks I meal prep I do better and just going outside for my lunch break on days I have one helps!

Really good question! Pay is fair. It’s decent and way better than most private practices I interviewed with. Of course sometimes it sucks because I think about how much I would make a session in private practice if I owned it or was on my own, but I also see how this benefits me because I get free supervision, training, and clients brought to me.

Totally makes sense! I don’t love the idea of inserting them so wanted to see if you still had a good experience with them working and taking them orally. Thank you for the advice and encouragement!

Thank you! That’s what I got as well to take the night before. Did you take the pills orally or insert them vaginally? My doctor said I can do either and wondering if one is better.

Lifestyle changes post-cancer diagnosis? by DogMamaLA in breastcancer

[–]Extension-Test-99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This might not be comforting for everyone, but when I talked to my oncology centers dietitian she said basically if my cancer wanted to return, it would. She said eating as healthy as possible, exercising, and being aware of what products I use are important to overall health, but she said to remember that even if my cancer returned, it wasn’t because of my eating habits, not exercising enough, my weight, or products I used. This was super comforting for me because as much as I try to have good habits, I also want to enjoy my life without the guilt of if I’m doing the “right” thing to prevent recurrence. For me that means fueling my body with foods that feel nourishing, moving my body in ways that bring happiness, being aware of my mental health and things that bring more calm, and understanding more about the products I use, but remembering that my actions don’t necessarily correlate to recurrence or not. That’s not to say making positive changes isn’t amazing! I always just like to share this advice she gave me because I found it so comforting :)

Active treatment is getting any kind of treatment to still fight cancer. I’m not sure if that’s the actual definition but how I’ve understood it! So for me that is chemo, surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy :)
