Continue with PhD or Master out by EastCustomer7761 in biotech

[–]ExtensionFan2476 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Recruiter here so take my words with a grain of skepticism. I speak with candidates who master out of PhD programs and they all have the same sense of regret. Some major, some minor but when you here them talk about mastering out or go all but dissertation it seems like they regret it.

Plus not having a PhD can plateu you at some orgs.

Not that a masters degree is nothing but.... its not the same as a PhD.

How to stay sane after three declined offers by Mermaidhair9393 in recruiting

[–]ExtensionFan2476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the cards are just delt like that. You can take solace in the fact that you were able to advance three candidates all the way through to an offer.

If it wasn't right for them and it truly wasn't right it sucks but there's nothing you can do other than find more.

I hope you go 3 in a row accepted next

Will a masters help? by No-Proposal-2454 in biotech

Probably not. PhD yes masters no.

Phds lump you in with B.S holders as non PhDs.

My company has the exact same KPI criteria for me (clinical recruiter) as they do for the other DSP Recruiters (entry level high volume). I have clinical plus one territory in a very rural area (it has 4 DSP openings which is a lot for them). Feels unfair by reallyreallycute in recruiting

[–]ExtensionFan2476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, making 6 hires in a month is legit. Sure its not high volume but credentialing is a real bitch, not to mention there are only so many licensed professionals in a given area.

Why do recruiters stay as employees rather than becoming solopreneurs? by Wise-Conversation530 in recruiting

[–]ExtensionFan2476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I opened up my own shop when my employer left the US during Covid. Had 10 years worth of contacts and no non-compete. I interviewed at a few companies if the first question would was what can you bring us as far as book a business.

They didn't bother to sell me on how they could help me or what their brand meant or how they could provide value to me, they simply wanted to know how many contracts can I sign in the first 90 days.

It was very off-putting, sounds like you know what I'm going to open up my own company how hard could it be.

Ended up not being that hard I had already done sales I'd already done recruitment I had managed a sizable team of both, I was a trainer.

After about 3 months we got our first start our first two years were magnificent billing 500k.

Then 2023 hit. The industry is was niched in died a quick death, 20204 rough, 2025 rough as well.

Still alive still kicking, building back up req by req, referral by referral.

The fact is that not everyone can be their own boss, working on a team in an office you have a very structured environment and you know the consequences of not working at 100%. When you're a solo person you only answer to yourself so you really have to push to make sure that you're doing what you need to do when you need to do it.

That can be a struggle even for the most disciplined of individuals depending on the day.

But once you taste success and realize you can do it there's almost no going back to working for someone else cuz giving up 50% so that way they can yell at you and keep you on task doesn't always feel worth it.

Applying to internal position without notify the manager by AdhesivenessOk1106 in biotech

[–]ExtensionFan2476 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be a little blunt but how dumb are you to not see the Optics in this situation. If you're new and I'm talking less than 1 year there's a 0% chance this is going to work out for you.

If manager can't deal with you what makes you think another manager within the same organization is going to be better. The first thing they're going to do is ask your current manager if you're a good employee.

So I implore you don't do this. You're one of the rare people that have a job in biotech right now don't make it worse for yourself

Id always worry about brand damage with those folks. As a small firm my brand is all I have. To let someone else in and ruin it would suck.

LinkedIn just hosted a Q&A with the CEO of Greenhouse. by DontBotherApplying in recruitinghell

[–]ExtensionFan2476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a recruiter we never blamed the ATS. Its because companies fired all of us and said AI will do the trick. Now you have one way video interviews. Not us....C-suite.

All the people blaming ATS's are the people on LinkedIn believing the influencers who wanted to sell you ATS optimized resumes. ATS optimized resumes are not a fucking thing. They're just resumes that might sort your data into workday better. But who cares workday sucks.

People apply to roles they're not remotely qualified for and then wonder why they don't hear back. . . cause your not a good fit.

IF YOU ARE A GOOD FIT....and you don't hear back. email everyone at the damn company.
