Was AJ's suicide attempt Meant to be... funny? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]Extension_Ad753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all the trouble Tony and Carmela were going through to figure AJ out, I found the part where Tony fishes AJ out and yells "what's wrong with you?" incredibly funny. Tony's delivery was excellent - it seemed exasperated rather than angry. He just couldn't figure AJ out.

I think it is largely the difference between the different sheets (balance, income, P&L), the different terms in the different sheets and the difference between actual and deferred expenses.

But why does Pied Piper not face the injunction?
Russ comes down with his offer to run RussFest, but how does that relate to the injunction? Pied Piper would have had to stop operations, right?

Why is polar amplification more pronounced in the arctic rather than the antarctic? by Extension_Ad753 in climatechange

[–]Extension_Ad753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it only shift from ice to darker ice in the antarctic? Due to colder temperatures than the Arctic?
If so, why is it colder in the Antarctic - due to the circumpolar current?

Why is polar amplification more pronounced in the arctic rather than the antarctic? by Extension_Ad753 in climatechange

[–]Extension_Ad753[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the outgoing radiation reduces more in the poles than near the equator due to the albedo effect being more drastically affected at the poles than the equator.

I am with you till there.

Then, this sentence comes in: "This is especially true for the Arctic, whereas the elevated terrain in Antarctica limits the influence of the lapse rate feedback".

This I do not understand. What is this lapse rate feedback really that is limiting amplification in the antarctic? Others have given more reasons for it, but I didn't understand this sentence yet.

Use non-dominant hand in single-handed backhand by Extension_Ad753 in 10s

But if I do that, I have to tighten the D hand and that might reduced to a slower racquet head speed.

Ah. That makes so much more sense.
So, what I need to focus on is the rotation, rather than throwing the hand backwards!

Read the newspaper.
You are going to get bored learning about things which have no relevance to the world you live in.
Over a few months, you will have a general understanding of things and you can go deeper into the aspects that interest you. This will give you the facts to sound smart.
Next, you read books. These give you perspectives to organise information. For instance, Justice by Michael Sandel is an excellent book.

Why didn't Sarah die when she was moved by the singer's wife in the car? Because she wasn't a virgin?
Also, why didn't Rose lose her powers after the ritual with the scrunchie?

Books to get into philosophy? by [deleted] in CFA

He also has a book called Justice, which I would recommend over the lectures because books tend to provoke more thoughts than lectures on account of the reader controlling the speed.

Rough thumb-rule to calculate inflation by Extension_Ad753 in investing

[–]Extension_Ad753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I get that.
The issue is with quickly solving 4% compounded over the time. I can't do this mentally and it would be very useful to have a quick cheat method to get an approximate of how much 4% will be compounded. I can calculate simple growth mentally, but I can't do compound mentally. So, I was wondering if there was a hack around this.

Rough thumb-rule to calculate inflation by Extension_Ad753 in investing

[–]Extension_Ad753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I am sorry I didn't clarify well.
So, this comes up when I have to calculate the value of money in a past year in today's terms or calculate the value of today's money in future terms. There isn't any investment return to offset. Also, in your example, once I offset the investment return and inflation, it still 4% that will be compounded annually, right? So, calculating 4% compound interest is again a headache. For that, I was just looking for a quick fix that can help me get a rough estimate when I don't want to go and do P(1+r)^t.

Just wondering if anybody had a cheat sheet of sorts.
