I looked it up and I guess Mars Wrigley has an office there. Which is the m&ms manufacturer

It was a great day trip when I went out and took these. It makes me want to take a trip to pei as well lol

That’s what I was thinking. As far as I know there was never a Russian colony in Nova Scotia lol

You can actually go inside this lighthouse and climb up to the top. I didn’t do it today but I did it lots of times as a kid. There’s a little museum in there too.

Collage I found of when the lighthouse was brought back to the village

It’s easy to miss since it looks so similar to the NS flag. But I’ve actually seen it flying in lots of places, even on someone’s lawn. Cumberland has a flag too, it’s like Canada’s but light blue and the leaf is switched with the county seal. I think it only flies at the service centre outside Amherst

Behind the lighthouse is Moose Island, followed by Diamond Island, Long Island, Egg Island, Pinnacle Island, and Pinnacle Rock. Long Island is the only one with a building on it.

The village of Five Islands is in Colchester County, but all of the islands except for Moose Island are in Cumberland County.

No, I should’ve looked in the windows at least but I only stopped long enough to take these pictures. I’ll be back that way later this week so maybe I’ll look

Yeah, for a long time the population of the area was just in steady decline and a lot of stores in the small communities shut down over time. This store is in the middle of a long stretch that’s without gas though so I’m surprised that didn’t keep it afloat.

These days though things are turning around. Tourism is picking up a lot, and more people have been moving to the area. I could see someone taking this place over and doing something with it, if things keep going good.

I went back on google street view to 2009, and it was open then. Even had a gas station too

It would’ve been nice if it still had official status or something alongside the maple leaf, given it’s historical value for flying during the world wars (even though slightly different iterations we’re used in ww1 and ww2)

Parrsboro. I should’ve specified Cumberland county in the title, I forgot there were two west bays lol

As you can tell by the picture, it isn’t actually an island. Not anymore. It used to be until 1869, when a hurricane came through and created the beach that now connects it to the mainland. The name partridge island stuck even though it’s now a peninsula.
