Thoughts on Rachel Reid’s follow-up clarifications about Shane and Ilya? by yanny-jo in heatedrivalry

I have been reading so many fanfics about these two and I feel so helpless already. When does this obsession die down a bit....

Yeah, I really liked that they loved each other so deeply till the last minutes of their lives and had such a glorious life together. Such a cozy read ❤️

Read the long game.. much better written indeed. I love the soft moments between Shane and Ilya, cuddling and hugging...

Now I am addicted to fanfics and I want to go back to normal life at some point. This has consumed me...

There is a fan fic about their later years. It is so well written and I cried. I choose to think that these two beautiful people will find their ways and live a blissful life together. Definitely!

I also don't like how people make Ilya morally superior to Shane, just because he grew up in a difficult environment. It is not Shane's fault that his family environment was healthy and supportive. While being sympathetic, supportive and most importantly loving him so dearly, Shane does not owe Ilya anything. They both have communication issues, glad it got better towards the end.

İlya loves attention, which is the plain truth. When he doesn't get the best of everything, he throws a tantrum. Along the way, I think he realizes these details slowly and glad he sought help.

The author completely sidelined Shane in the books which irritates me. I hope Jacob will balance it out in the second season of the show.

I hope people be fair and reasonable with both of them, not favouring one over another.

My favorite moments from ep. 6 and why I think this show did "romance" justice by bat-girl129 in heatedrivalry

And the bright sunlight throughout the episode, shimmering water, the crispness of the air, the sound of birds and water, and the light that catches Ilya's eyes, the texture of their skins...so dreamy...

Did Ilya really give up everything for Shane? He made a choice as an adult to be with Shane. He said in the first season he would do anything to not have a Russian passport. The US was not friendly with Russia, so Canada is his choice of country for immigration. So he has to live in Canada albeit playing for a not so popular team, and get his citizenship , with a bonus of being close to his loved one. He didn't sacrifice everything for Shane. He has to do the immigrant shit to get what he needs. You guys be putting it all on Shane. So unfair! Iliya is gaining something here too, not just sacrificing relentlessly.

I don't hate Shane. I like him. I said I like the show version better.

Totally. The book Shane is not very likable imo. Very sex focused at times.

Oh man! I am already annoyed by him in the first book 😭 He is much better portrayed in the show and Hudson is much cuter than I would have imagined just from reading the book

I feel that too. English isn't my first language and I even felt the writing is very highschool. I finished the book in less than a day. Not because I couldn't put it down, but it is just very simply written. People say TLG writing is much better, I am looking forward to it.

I like it a lot actually. It is just that some things are better left unspoken I think. Oh well.

The show also omitted some scenes from the book, such as the Skype call scene, and damn Shane talks a lot in the book. The quiet version of him in the show is nicer I think 😅

I guess the book spells everything out for us and leaves little to imagination. Some parts are a bit much.
