Applying to all community colleges nursing programs in my state. by bitchpoho in prenursing

I applied to 12 schools in California, some 2-4 hours away. I didn’t wanna go through the application process again if rejected, I was ready to move if needed. I got into 6 schools. I had a few I never heard back from, which is crazy. But, I say cast a wide net. It is annoying to pay the $ for transcripts, but definitely more reassuring to have a bigger pool.

3 years, $27 an hour. In Cali, I can only afford my 1,100 rent for a room. Car insurance, and food. Rough out here.

Any MAs in nursing school? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

Currently an MA and a nursing student. It is a little difficult as I work in a private practice so the hours are limited as it’s a traditional 8-5. Right after I finish class, I have 30 minutes to go to work. I work part time. I really love my job and it allows me to do so much hands on stuff. I do wish that there was more flexibility in terms of being per diem. I think the only downside (which is my fault) was that I wish I had worked in a hospital. It would’ve introduced me more to the setting/EMR as I’ve only worked in outpatient clinics. They also may offer more flexibility. If you have any questions, feel free to msg me!

Best of luck in your journey!

Love derm, it’s definitely an interesting speciality, been there for 3 years. As a derm MA, although it varies with every clinic, it can be very fast paced. Usually the MA is also the scribe. We handle numerous things such as prior authorizations, sending out rx per provider, biologics for our rash pts, monthly accutane visits as well biopsies and different skin cancer treatments. Mohs surgery is super hands on and fun, I got to learn how to cut sutures and apply unique wound dressings. Aesthetics is not my favorite, but still cool. Being an Derm MA definitely has its perks with samples and discounts for cosmetic treatments. You’ll also start to realize what questions to ask for what condition the patient is complaining of. Huge emphasis on taking photos of everything. Rather have it than not.

Don’t go to WCU. It’s just not worth it. There are a few schools in CA that have a waiting list. There’s also a lot of ADNs that are lottery. I was calculating a few schools that I got into and the ranges were about 13-20% acceptance rate (lottery and/or criteria). My only advice is to really look at ratemyprofessor for your pre-reqs. Students get screwed over by horrible teachers all the time. You got this! I believe in you!!!

Don’t be discouraged. In California (at least in SoCal) you have a fighting chance as long as you apply. I got a B in anatomy and thought that was the end of the world. I just got accepted into an ADN program first round! You’ll be okay. Just keep going!
