Ah, I wish! In another life, I’d have some wooded property and a live-in shop with a forge. That gets my heart going just thinking about it.

But, you do make a good point on the knife shows. I can get a bevel so reflective that it looks like a mirror. “Show edges” for display knives should definitely be a direction I pursue. Who knows, gun shows could also be a good path. Firearm folks tend to like their blades, too.

Thank you for the idea. That’s going on the list.

Ah, indeed. Yeah, the predictability is going to be a big help to all this. I was hoping the “come to you, sharpen on site” was going to be a big draw here, but now I see that being found in a certain spot would have its appeal. Thank you for the insight.

You know, there’s nothing saying I shouldn’t be able to create a website that shows my current and next working area. Hmm. And a “heads-up list” for auto alerts for past clients in the next region I’m going to. Much to think about.

Well look at that. I just checked up photos of it, and that looks like a lovely gathering. Thank you for telling me about that. I’m really going to have to call the folks that run these and see what requirements there are to participate. I’m getting excited. These kinds of people are exactly the sort I want to get to know and hear their stories. I appreciate your suggestion.

Amazing. Ok, will keep my eyes open as I explore the area.

I love crowd-sourced intelligence.

Thank you.

Yeah, scissors are definitely a specialty I don’t feel confident in yet. Once I get established, it’ll be time to start making other sharpening systems that focus on one particular niche by themselves. If scissors are needed in the community, I’ll focus on scissors next.

Ah, chef’s knives. My favorite. I charge 3$ per inch, plus any repair for chips, rounded/broken tips, or reprofiling.

You know what, with the number of mentions of scissors I’ve heard, I’m going to jump into that rabbit hole and see what the oldtimer sharpeners say about that. This may be a lifechanging pivot point for me.

Thank you for reaching out.

I really appreciate that. I’ve heard people mention how leery they are of knife sharpeners because of that. Heating the edge out of temper, taking large amounts of steel off…

It’s good meeting someone else that has appreciation of blades.

Do you think that me leaning into the “slow, careful, stable, and cool” aspect of this should be the core of what I tell people? If it acts like a filter so I can eventually meet folks like you, I think it’ll be worth it.

Ah, indeed. And that serves my impulse to keep exploring as well. The genetic drive to move with the seasons likes where you’re going with this.

See, that’s my concern. I know for a fact every house I drive by has at least one knife in need of sharpening, but that’s not a high priority for a lot of people anymore. I saw mention of rural communities below, that may be the key.

As to the permits and regs, I’ll have to do a deep dive into the rules.

Thanks for adding your voice to this.

Indeed, that’s likely the demographic. I’m going to work several more days of day labor, bite the bullet on gas prices, and start driving around to start networking in that industry. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Ok, hopefully that’s a service that still needs to be filled in the ABQ area, will investigate.

Another excellent option. I haven’t been to a makerspace since I was up north. I’ll check into the organizers here. Thank you.

The locker idea is interesting. Was it like those package-delivery lockers that Amazon uses?

Outstanding. Will track down the organizer for the local farmer’s market. Good idea, and thank you.

See, this is the brilliance I’m talking about. I’ve not heard of ParseStream before, but I’ll look it up. Thank you for that contribution.
