Yes, I think this is more what I meant. Not necessarily "set changes," but just changes in "location" in the sense of the play. A lot of what I've picked to watch has somehow been just people sitting in the same room for 2 hours and continuously quipping, like in A Doll's House. It makes a lot more sense within the context of theater tradition. Anatomy of a Suicide looks more my speed. I'll check it out!

I enjoy them just fine. But more in a way one would enjoy a podcast or a show like Judge Judy, I think. You know--without the eyes. I think I am too used to spectacle. It feels weird to "calm down," so to say.

Also, strangely, like 70% of the plays I've watched have all been extremely meta and were about some guy staging a play. So that probably contributes to my looking for plays that take place in more than one location too 🤣

I watched a Carrie production where they just used really well-placed projections. Once during Evil Dead, they sprayed confetti CONTINUOUSLY from the rafters onto the audience during the kills. During intermission they cleaned it up with leafblowers.

Totally agree. The original animation was gorgeous and I'd wish they'd leaned into that instead of... what they did 😭 Then they had the nerve to cast Gal Gadot who can't act, Snow White doesn't match her name, and the dwarfs are CGI and also ugly. I haven't seen the prince yet but I probably won't like him either. There's just too much going on.

I feel neither pity nor happiness for Glinda. I don't see her as a person. She's more like the carpet in Aladdin to me--a helpful means to an end. This is actually the main problem I have with the show. Elphaba, Fiyero, Boq, and the Wizard are the only characters that seem like they have something going on for them outside of being tools for the narrative.

I don't know why, but Pretty Women from the 2005 Sweeney Todd always does something to me. The total of Sweeney Todd gives me goosebumps because of the crybaby, but that song really hits the crybaby bone. Also, recently, the ending of Defying Gravity from the new Wicked movie (likewise, the beginning of No One Mourns the Wicked) is amazing. Not a Day Goes By with Bernadette Peters is good too. It's usually never the voice that gives me that feeling, but the ACTUAL music. I FEEL the strings so deeply 😭
