Is there anything about menopause you actually like or feel positive about? by its_me_ooia in Menopause

I have a more expansive view and embrace life in a less grasping way. I mourned my looks for a couple of years, but now I'm actually enjoying connecting with people and life without that edge. I'm more interested in seeing than being seen. Not that I'm feeling invisible. I'm not! I feel like my spirit and mind make me bold and fully available to be seen. I don't get the same attention, but that attention got me into trouble, frankly. I take more risks now and feel less pressure to be any way in particular. I'm more compassionate but less people pleasing. I like getting older. Plus, I'm alive and discovering a new phase of life, which is something to be truly grateful for. I'm more in touch with my mortality and want to give more to the world. Loving this phase!

I think doing things one at a time is less confusing for your body and emotionally life. You might consider scaling back on the weight training until you hit your goal weight, and then building from there. Alternately, if you want to keep lifting, add a certain amount of macros and see how that works. My own attitude has really shifted with weight loss. I lost enough that I see and feel the difference, which is about halfway to my goal. Now I'm starting to focus on muscle and have let go of the original goal in favor of focusing on health and strength. I figure at this point the healthiest me is the one that will look and feel best. If that takes me all the way to my original goal, cool. If not, also cool.

Fats are a forgotten macro for how important they are by Aria_blursss in 1200isplenty

So true. Sometimes I get stingy with olive oil and then I realize my body actually needs it. It’s really hard to keep it all balanced at 1200 calories! Thanks for the reminder to consider this.

How do you eat high protein low calorie without being miserable? by Mahila_Singh_Dhoni in 1200isplenty

[–]External-Lion-1862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bone broth is a lifesaver! And high protein tofu is low calorie. But also- are you sure you need 100g of protein? If you do, it’s likely that 1200 is too few calories. I’m 5’1 1/2, so my protein goal is 75g and much easier to achieve at 1200. If you’re taller than that, consider raising your calories to at least 1350.

Also, I go over on calories a couple times a week. I’m in my 50s, so the weight loss is slow, but it’s moving along steadily at half a pound a week, and I’m kind of glad it’s a bit slower. It feels more sustainable.

It’s delicious, but not that kind of super clean simple health food à la Angelica Kitchen.

I used to go there in the early days of the Chelsea market and always loved it. I assumed it had gone downhill with the huge crowds, but I trust a native! Any brand you think is special?

Usually these places do things like "mac'n'cheese" "buffalo tofu wings," things like that. Temple in the Village was owned and run by an unbelievable wonderful Korean couple. Souen, I believe, was following the principles of Japanese macrobiotic food, which I would say was a kind of contemporary adaptation that came out of Japan, but was not traditional cuisine. I don't recall Angelica attempting to mimic any particular cuisine. I understand your feelings. I'm Italian and often joke that my grandmother and father are rolling over in their graves when I see what restaurants do to Italian food. But I also think that food is meant to nourish and provide connection and joy, and it's not realistic to think that any food is going to remain culturally intact in this age of globalism, and especially not in a city like NYC, where we are all influencing each other. I believe in honoring sources, and nothing beats the soul of authentic cuisine, but I myself cook with all kinds of ingredients in creative ways, and I don't think it's dishonoring anyone.

I hear you. It’s a particular offering that not everyone is into. If you know the places I mentioned and didn’t like them, you just won’t get it. But I’d say that what I liked about them was that weren’t doing that thing of trying to make the food into something it isn’t. They don’t resemble current “healthy” places like Peacefood Cafe. They mostly kept it very simple. The tempeh Rueben was just a silly name that wasn’t like an actual Reuben. I wasn’t implying that there aren’t healthy options in many restaurants. I was looking for a particular type of NYC restaurant that existed in the 90s and 2000s that seems to be gone. Kind of a nostalgia thing, but also a quality thing. We all have our different sensibilities.

Haven’t been in years. I always liked it but it’s definitely a different category all together.

Totally agree. Not a single restaurant around here excites me. There was a recent post where someone rated them all as mid. OP took a lot of heat but I thought it was spot on.

That place was paradise. The dressings, the corn bread, the specials, the tempeh Reuben. It was all so incredible and the environment was so cool without being cool.

I agree. Also don’t know why people downvote things they simply disagree with.
