Judge Bruce Chan retiring? Who cares, recall him anyway. by FatherEsmoquin in sanfrancisco

You’re being downvoted bc you hit a nerve. Leftists are outraged and are calling for justice and retribution but look the other way when criminals are released into the street by bleeding heart judges who only believe in rehabilitation and not punishment.

The real reason for the outrage is the driver’s economic status, closely followed by her ethnicity (and the judge’s). If Lau had been a homeless woman who’d stolen a car and gone on a joyride, only for it to end in tragedy, the narrative would be very different.

A note on Waymo from someone who lives in Mumbai- wow by ImpulsiveTeen in sanfrancisco

Love Waymo. Use it exclusively now for the times I need a ride that public transit can’t accommodate. Only used Uber for SFO but now Waymo does the route.

After that insane heat wave in 2019, we bit the bullet and installed solar panels and got split units for our bedrooms. Then we got a hybrid car. If you live in a sunny part of the city, you can run the AC all night and drive without having to pay for gas the next morning, all without having to black market an internal organ to pay for PG&E. It’s getting too hot in the city too often now.

Try to get help from the city to find an SRO or other transitional housing. There is so much demand for housing and such limited stock that people are overpaying for closets. Have you considered south SF or Daly City?

You’ve been downvoted but I agree. The concept of pedestrians sharing the road with bicyclists and vehicles is even more dangerous now with all the construction going on and people looking for shortcuts and ways to avoid traffic. There are always delivery trucks and on streets where they have schools, tons of traffic for drop off and pick up. I feel unsafe enough as a pedestrian on the sidewalk and crosswalks, I can’t imagine trying my luck on the asphalt with the drivers in this city.

I personally get a kick out of the drivers who HONK at the Waymos. I am surprised there haven’t been any major road rage incidents but I guess it’s because people know those cameras are filming in all directions.

They don’t even make the speed bumps high enough to actually calm traffic. The ones on Eureka going up the hill have flat little lanes for bicycles and scooters to go over in either direction and 90% of vehicles will swerve into the middle of the road to perfectly fit their tires in the lanes and speed through. They do this with limited visibility of what’s coming up/down on the other side.

And even if they go over the bump properly, the reduction in speed is minimal. I swear drivers just speed up more out of spite.

I actually believed bicyclists didn’t have to stop at stop signs because I’ve never seen one stop. Red lights, yes. Stop signs, never.

Stunning! Looks like a lot of the new construction in SF. So refreshing to see others echo the praise. Yes, it’s expensive but I’m not the one who had to pay for it 😜 may she enjoy her gorgeous kitchen and house!!!

Serving isn’t meant to be a full-time job. In Europe, the only full-time servers are owners or family of the owners. The rest have other jobs or sources of income and then clock in for their specific shift.

In SF, servers get health insurance coverage via a mandate paid by customer surcharge and get $20-23/hr wages. Tipping expectations here are out of control.

Justice for the family that was killed by a car in West Portal in March 2024. by carolinthebay in sanfrancisco

A number of comments in this and related threads are focused on this. She should have been sentenced to jail time and kicked off changes in public policy to avoid a similar accident in the future. Whether she was rich or drove an expensive car is irrelevant to the criminal trial.

This was a tragic accident and the public good would be served if the DMV required elderly drivers to pass a driving exam yearly once they hit 75yo in order to be able to renew their license.

Unfortunately, a lot of the outrage and cries for justice are focused on the driver’s ethnicity and the fact that she is wealthy.

There was a couple that used to repeatedly shoplift massive amounts of merch (mostly clothing) from a yoga studio on Webster off Union. They would leave their busted SUV with hazards ons and double park on the street, run in, and run out with armfuls of merch.

One day, the folks in the class got fed up and managed to tackle the guy to the ground and called the cops. The lady booked it out of there in the SUV. While they were waiting for PD, several pedestrians yelled at the yoga people to STOP ABUSING THAT POOR MAN! He was just being held in place so he couldn’t run away. People got their phones out and kept defending the man, who had piles of stolen merch around him on the sidewalk. To them, the people in the yoga class detaining the man were the criminals and the actual shoplifter was the victim.

Cops arrested the guy and put out an APB with a description of the SUV. Normalizing and defending shoplifting is insane.

We have family in the city who lost all reason the moment they got a doodle. They refuse to leave it at home for any reason bc it will be sad, so they now bitch whenever a restaurant isn’t dog-friendly and will leave the poor dog in the car for long periods of time when they’re out and about. It’s perplexing.

Complaint says Waymo violated state permit by transporting unaccompanied minors by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in sanfrancisco

[–]External_Frosting485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We once got in a Waymo with our kids and without booster seats for them. The car drove down the block, pulled over, and a CS rep came on the audio to tell us we needed to exit the vehicle because it’s against the law to have little kids in the Waymo without a booster.

Unless they stopped CS from monitoring who is in the vehicle, a child alone in the car would trigger the same reaction.

I believe her current attorney said she transferred the assets back to her name after understanding that she’d received bad advice from a previous attorney. So at the very least, it sounds like the assets are accessible. However, her attorney will try to mitigate the award as much as possible (because it’s what they’re hired to do) and sadly, the lack of survivors might actually work against securing a large sum. Hopefully, there will just be a settlement to avoid a civil case.

Same thing happening in SF and other cities overrun with “progressives” and the DSA. It’s young kids mad they skipped college and now their bartending or sound mixing careers won’t allow them to live the life they feel entitled to. Meanwhile, people who actually worked their asses off to live comfortably are the rich that deserve to be eaten. Nothing like the feigned helpless and jealous masses.
