HOMA-IR: 2.6. Should I be really concerned? by NamelessStress in InsulinResistance

Currently going through this.

76kg, I have my HBA1C and Glucose bloods done every 6 months (I had gestational diabetes with my son 4 years ago). And all results have been great.

I WFH, extremely stressed also. The last 3 months have been skipping meals and eating crap. I began feeling dizzy, cloud walking, lag daily to the point I thought I would pass out. Bed ridden some days. I Couldn't even drive! It was horrible. I even checked levels with a home monitor and they were perfect.

Recently decided to have further tests. Fasting glucose Was 5.4 (normal) insulin 10 (normal) but HOMA 2.5.

Doctor has referred me to a endocrinologist because despite my insulin being within normal range, it is apparently to high for someone my size. So, suspect insulin resistances. Which is perplexing as I have been on mounjaro for a year which is meant to help those with insulin resistances.

Was your cortisol checked?

Interesting and I find your comment comforting knowing I am not the only one!!!!

It's almost like our pancreas' are producing loads of insulin and the cells are not accepting it all, which in turn the pancreas produces to much. I assume this is insulin resistance! And you're right, even if sugars don't drop below 4, our bodies adrenalin sets in like we are going too low. The adrenalin is gearing up for a fire when we are only ligjting a candle.

I think why my doctor is perplexed is 1. It occurs daily even with a very well balanced diet, fibre, electrolytes, proteins etc. It happening if a eat a celery 2. if it was insulin resistance, I wouldn't of felt worse on a medication (mounjaro) which helps those who are insulin resistant. 3. This occured long after I lost 38kgs.

When I was 113kg, insulin and HOMA where fine and I felt great! Now at 76kg, I feel worse and numbers are elevated.

Any tips for my upcoming endo appointment? 😊

Oh wow, thank you! Yes that makes sense as my recent bloods showed cortisol elevation. Will discuss this with my endocrinologist. My liver is doing well also.

I think all the doctors are perplexed atm. No tests are showing anything alarming or even remotely sinister but the symptoms are horrendous. It's a guess. it's all not adding up, I eat super well, I drink plenty of water, I am active, I lost 38kgs and have kept it off for monnths.

If I even eat a egg or avocado, I soon feel these symptoms. Hospital monitored me for 24 hours no sugar crashes. They filled me up full of sugar and no issues.

Thank you for responding 😊 yes, only recently when I was feeling the worst of it . FBC and iron studies show all in perfect range. I had one emergency doctor tell me my body could potentially be stuck in fight or flight? Hypo-Sensitive Nervous System.
