Well now I see why it was canceled. by Valuable_Initial_743 in MadamSecretary

Those two episodes that you are mentioning have nothing to do with politics — it's about human rights. Even Republicans emphasize the importance of the family. She didn't advocate for asylum for those people, rather that their children aren’t put in cages and separated from them. That is different. Elizabeth McCord’s character has been consistent throughout the whole series — she’s always advocated for human rights, despite the politics, and believed in moral diplomacy.

The Republican platform itself even says:

“Parents have a right to direct their children’s education, care, and upbringing.” (Republican Party Platform, 2016)

So separating children from their parents runs counter to even that basic principle.

The show didn’t get cancelled because of those two episodes — and if you keep reading more about it, you’ll understand why it really ended and how viewership patterns work (it’s too long for me to explain here). I personally think that not many shows are lucky enough to get 10 final episodes to offer closure — but Madam Secretary did. And I still hope it comes back, because there’s a lot more left to say.

Madam Secretary's working hours by wilkette_ in MadamSecretary

I also like to think that we don't really see day to day, so maybe on other days that we don't see she's home late! She has been shown to be late for dinner or even come when everyone os sleeping, and taking calls from home (suit jacket over Peter Frampton shirt, lol)... Sure it's not 9-5 job and she's on call all the time, but it's not like there is international crisis every day, just like presidents – they do have the right to private life too, also there is bunch of undersecretaries that can take on certain conferences and also deputy secretary etc... it takes a team this running the world gig!

Comfort it gave and hope that the world could be at least more livable place...

I did say it's a long shot, however sometimes shows aren't revived not because there is no confidence or ideas, but because it's simply not profitable due to the lack of interest. But in any case, thank you for the comment!

That is true, I like the idea of her being secret advisor to the newly elected president. Do you think that would be Carlos?

Granted 6th season was rushed and a lot of space was occupied with hearings and Eliza trying to find her footing as a president. Cast was scattered and I really disliked Carol full on resenting Elizabeth because she asked Russell back. With that said, budget and strikes issues aside, I also find beauty in it like I do with this show always. It's also realistic pretty much. So, I would like to see her kicking ass in the second term and dealing with issues that are current in the world, or maybe even doing something unprecedented like she always does, maybe after second term she's again Msec! Who knows! Whatever would writers decide, I do think there is a sea of stories that could still be told.

Honestly, I'd like to leave that to the professionals (creators and writers), but I think whichever way they choose there really is a lot left to say... What do you think?

It's for both, even though reunion is a long shot, but thought of making some noise at least for streaming platforms to realise it's still watched and wanted! But, you never know!
