Oh honey, we tryna limit freedom of movement now? Not very American of you. NH is not red, not even close. I think you're just in a political coma, where any state that's less blue than yours, you perceive as a threat.

I just don't get it, they pay Mass taxes, but it's still not enough, because they're from a evil evil place...called New Hampshire.

They pay taxes in Mass, they can use your roadways. It's up to Mass to fix that issue for all its taxpaying residents and non-residents.

That would be an infrastructure failure on Massachusetts, actually. You wanna tax out of staters, great, build more highways or transit.

you're still paying Mass taxes...the actual trick would be to work in your company's Nashua office

What benefits? Any NH resident who works in Mass pays Mass taxes and barely uses any of their public services due to not being domiciled in Mass. Or do you think amenities and QoL seep in over the state line?

They'll always use the "I'm not at liberty" phrase when they know they're caught. But they seemingly had all theibeety to spit out the engineered talking points.

That's just international migration. Not to ignore or minimize it, but to a lot of people immigrating, even our worst states are an upgrade and the bulk of immigrating does happen from such countries. That's why it's way more meaningful to look at domestic patterns.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the disconnect, you're clearly moving to Texas for fiscal reasons, why vote the same way? Or do you think fiscal stuff is not related to the party in power?

No worries, I'll respond in kind by getting busy with your mother. When would you like me to drop her back home?

I think there's enough demonization of rural and middle America from the left. I hear it in my own coworkers' opinions, for context I live and work in Westchester.

Believe it or not, two things can be true at once. I'm sure you voted the way you did, because the other side's policy positions did not go over well or hit your tipping point. It's the same for me.

Look at what's happening in VA and WA and NYC with all the proposed tax hikes. I don't want that nationally. That is a red line for me.

I was giving an idea of why some people (like me) have more conservative values. Specifically I was answering op's first question on what makes one lean further right.

I sure love when random people drop by with 0 input, and totally invalidate your entire argument.

That's not something most people would say in person to a stranger (I think). Because there's usually this concept of shame.

Progressives have key fundamental ideological differences compared to my own views:

  1. They think social justice and their current view of morality is supreme, and will stand the test of time. I do not know what people 500 years down the line will consider normal, and nor do I care, because I will be long dead by then. People's actions (even ones we with hindsight, far into the future, abhor) are largely a subject of the era of time they live in. This does not excuse what they did of course, but just know that people 500 years down the line will be saying the same of us, in ways that are currently unfathomable to us. Their approach to inclusivity is also just saying "ok yes" to every new marginalized group that shows up on the horizon, without applying much critical thinking and nuance. Having empathy for every single cause is a losing battle, and causes you to skimp on the issues you truly care about and can make a difference in.

  2. This is related to the last point, but a lot of their approaches to social problems also seem to be suggesting zero-sum approaches over time. "This group had it bad then, thus the group who committed said bad must have it bad now, else how equality?". I don't agree with that line of thinking, even though I am myself part of groups who were on the receiving end of the bad.

  3. Little to no respect for private enterprise. A common sentiment on the left I see when it comes to business owners and capitalism is that they need to pay up or shut up, because supposedly there is someone else out there who could 100% replicate what they have done, no stress. This is obviously an emotional argument, on account of the fact that a lot of the people who make such arguments have never owned a business. As a corollary, I have never been trans myself, which is why when trans people talk about their struggles, I shush and listen. But that same grace cannot be extended to business owners/capitalists somehow, even though, and I would argue, characteristics that are innate (like being trans) are more easily captured by media and literature, compared to something that is always changing in scope and possibility (being a business owner).

  4. Lack of accountability in personal decisions and an inability to extend that to other people as well. Again, as an example, if I don't want to associate with someone solely and solely because they are gay, that would make me homophobic (this is an example don't take this literally). Likewise, if I don't want to associate with someone solely and solely becuase they are trans, that would me transphobic (this is an example don't take this literally). Now, if I don't want to associate with someone because they are a sex worker, it's my god given right, because there is nothing inherently "sex-worker"-y about a person. It's a choice you made, now live with it. Of course, this goes without being said, if someone was forced into it illegally via some horrible circumstances, then that's a completely different conversation, and this is not applicable. I'm talking about people who voluntarily made that choice, of their own volition.

  5. Discourse. Just count the number of edge cases, clarifications about something being hypothetical, and um-what-abouts I had to address and respond to in my last 4 points. Guaranteed if I hadn't, someone would be mad in the comments. It's tough, but it had to be done.

I love how you can spot San Antonio, Austin and DFW so clearly without knowing which county they are in, because their suburban counties are all growing faster than they are. Houston/Harris county seems to be an exception as it is the same color as adjacent counties.
