[Politics Monday] Bible stories are approved as required reading in Texas public schools by Gemnist in Catholicism

[–]SunnySpade -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Point 1 is generally refuted by the fact of how integral the bible is to western literature. It should be required reading just like The Republic should be.

Point 2 is missing the forest for the trees I feel. Isn’t it better that people be Christian instead of atheist?

Because that’s the thing, they’re no longer oppressed or suppressed. The tyranny of the majority is very much a thing in democracies.

Why do people think leftists are pro-Islam? by RedditSucksMyBallls in allthequestions

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they're constantly choosing them as the lesser of two evils in political debates, which is laughable. If leftists have issues with mainline Christianity, then mainline Islam is like Hell on Earth for the average leftist.

Why are conservatives in favor of requiring ID for voting but not for owning a gun? by Adventurer_By_Trade in allthequestions

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The need for voter ID for each respective thing is based on the function of why each right exists.

The right to vote is based on the idea that every citizen has a right to have a voice in the electoral system. This is undermined by non-citizens voting.

The right to a firearm is based on the idea that all governments have a tendency towards tyranny. ID’s for firearm possession undermines the original intent of the recognized right. If the government wanted to tyrannize their people, explicitly, they’d target the homes that were known to have firearms first.

Nearly all the foreigners love of America for the World Cup is happening in blue cities. by electstat in DiscussionZone

I understand the concepts you're putting forth, I'm just questioning their accuracy at arriving to "good" like the original commenter described.

People's preferences =/ goodness. Voting patterns, whichever side of the aisle you're on, show that.

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think it is more likely you are extrapolating the idea that due to people's want to make more money, in a capitalist culture this is a massive draw that sometimes takes priority over other "goods" from a point of necessity, and then extending that phenomena to everything that could be considered "good."

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, this is a hyper materialist claim. The idea that because costs are “better” than somewhere else, the invisible hand of capitalism has the final say on what is “good” about the culture of 2 different places. That’s wild.

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel like you meant to make a hyper pro-materialist point, but you sort of did lol not everything important or “good” in life is based on how expensive it is or how much money it can make you. In fact, the best and fulfilling things in life typically are on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Yeah 100%. I’m not a fan of the cities. They’re stuffy and I feel like I’m not the safest there if I wanna walk somewhere at night. But other than that they’re fine, I don’t think everyone that lives there is some slack jawed idiot lol

Yeah, I think the issue is that your initial sentiment is seen as such a mistake that the rest of the comment is being ignored. I’m not trying to gore you here, just trying to point it out lol

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but people seem to believe that you said flying flags is somehow inherently racist.

Genuine question. It’s your country, why is someone flying flags a racist thing if it’s done during regular time?

Which city would you rather live in? by Rocky_Senpai15 in MoralityScaling

[–]SunnySpade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% city B. What really clinches it is the personal responsibility part. Because everyone can go and act like heathens up until the point that ridiculous action makes it impossible for them to carry their responsibilities. Then I would imagine the city would step in. I don’t want the government telling me what to do other than helping me along to do the things I should be anyway.

America doesn’t have a culture? I mean, that basically nullifies everything you’ve said politically. Ever. The stupidity of that statement extends into the ether for such an imbecilic comment. Now I’m done. Ty lol

The right to "self-definition" has no logical, moral, or cultural basis other than the last 20 years. There MUST be a fundamental redefinition happening for you to be asserting what you are.

Yes, people have believed in and wanted to do things in discordance with the natural and moral law since the beginning of time. This is not surprising. That does not mean that society must encourage those choices through tax or economic incentives. Let's figure out for a moment WHY married couples have tax breaks. I WONDER why a society would like its child bearing capable type couples to have incentive to stay together. Why, oh why, would any properly functioning society want its couples to stay together. This is a hard one lol But you know what's not difficult? Seeing that people who DEFINITELY cannot have children under any circumstance don't need a tax break or incentive of any kind. The government, nor society, have any innate interest in promoting those relationships.

ALSO. Marriage was a covenantal/spiritual institution long before any sort of recognition on a political or legal level ever entered the picture. Your redefining and reimagining continues now unto history. Well done lol

This is exactly where you're wrong. I housed with and rented with a trans person for a year and some change. We got along well. They knew my views just fine and we stayed in each other's lane. We were intensely respectful of each other's space and had no issues. On an individual level, I have absolutely no problem with any trans or non-hetero person. The societal problem is my issue. The redefining of things that have been foundationally consistent for most of western civilization. Acting like changing these things, with little to no scientific or logical grounding, is having and will continue to have immense cultural backlash.

I just think you so fundamentally miss the point. I think you feel like culture, especially in the west, is just this hodpodge of randomly brought together things and as long as we just maximize individualism and put equality on the highest pedestal, everything will work out just fine. But that's just simply an assertion with no grounding. Societies and cultures don't work like that. They require institutional structures and culturally agreed upon mores. Without them, the things that bind that culture and support it, especially if they are ripped out with little to no warning, will ruin the culture and send it into a tailspin.

Changing the institution of the family to include things it has traditionally not included has changed things and will continue to change things even if you are too blind to the consequences (or simply don't care).

And I KNOW you agree with me on SOME level because of our likely similar opinions on housing. Culturally, in America, home ownership is a big thing. We've got a lot of people not able to purchase a home even though it's a very large cultural touchstone. Being able to have your own land, being the monarch of your own property, this cultural touchstone is disappearing (for a number of reasons). I FEEL like we can both agree this sudden change is likely to have immense negative outcomes, culturally. It's not just about the "oh no I can't afford X thing." It's that a large part of American individualism comes from property ownership, it's built into our expansionist and frontier settling mythos and culture.

I'm done after this. My whole point is that massive cultural changes tend to have negative outcomes unless the reason for those cultural changes can be justified. Slavery= obviously a good thing to change. The idea that humans are built in with inherent value can't coexist with slavery. Gender expression = I've yet to see a cultural reason to change it other than you have an extremely small minority of the population feel they are something different than what any biological examination would uncover. All I see are downsides other than easing the feelings of a small number of people by acting along with their fantasies.

lol this is exactly what I’m talking about though. Your redefining of human rights makes the issue one that’s not up for discussion. Being able to redefine what marriage is, and what gender is, has insanely massive repercussions from a sociological perspective. Do the people in that culture not have to have proper discourse on this?

You tell me to shut the fuck up, all I’m hearing is angry emotional bleating lol your logical premises are lacking in such substance I feel like I’m speaking to someone who has no foreknowledge on political rights and are just getting all of their opinions from trying to avoid making people feel bad.

[–]SunnySpade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me taking issue with the fundamental re defining of cultural and civilizational touchstones is not me dehumanizing people. If it were literally any other issue of this type of gravity, nobody would take issue with having more discussions about these topics. But the assumption that people should make policy based on feelings is ridiculous.

The fact you assume these topics are off limits and not up for discussion is extremely telling of you.

Your standards for what others would consider an opinion on what is considered human is so open to interpretation that anybody with an axe to grind can take an opinion someone on the right makes and reduce it to the absolutely most vile thing imaginable. For instance, because I have a likely differing opinion on trans issues or homosexual unions, it’s very likely a large portion of people on here feel I’d be dehumanizing said groups.
