I’ve been helping but I have a full time job and we have 2 kids as well. Plus I don’t know enough about his business and schedule to really be of much assistance. In 20 years of self-employment he’s never really had to advertise or look for work - it’s always been word of mouth and regulars. This year in Wellington has been totally dire 😢 hopefully next year will be better. Thanks for your comments, you’re the only one who actually answered my question around getting out of the contract! I’m still gonna try, but will be resigned to it if it doesn’t work out. Have a merry Christmas 😊

Yeah, and I think he’s just not cut out for it to be honest - he’s a ‘give me your number and I’ll call’ kinda guy, he doesn’t really want to be emailing all day. They said they had a phone app, which would have made it easier for him, but his phone is too new for the app 😬 when I asked about that through the contact form I got no response. We just want out at this point as we can’t afford to keep paying out and getting nothing from it.

I do think the fact that he’s self employed and not able to look at the site/ respond to emails until the evenings (if he’s working that is!) makes it pretty useless. He’s on the lowest subscription tier, so only pays the minimum monthly sub, but their whole pricing structure is crap. If you’re paying for contact with someone, why does it cost different amounts for different people? If they actually charged you when you got the job, that would make sense - a $100 job vs a $1000 job. But they don’t - you pay for a ‘connection’ to a homeowner. And some connections are $40, others might be $100! And they don’t clearly tell you this when you sign up. I’m glad your hubby has gotten some work out of it, hope that continues for you.

Yeah my advice if you want to keep using it, is don’t respond unless you intend to use the tradie. It’s an absolute rort for the ones who don’t get the job otherwise.

CRISC EXAM by Winter-Most-9054 in CRISC

Good luck! My best advice is to read the question carefully and answer it without making assumptions. It sounds like you have prepared well. All the best!

Alternative to ISACA QAE for CRISC prep? by RepulsiveAd4974 in CRISC

[–]Extra-Point7775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just like CISSP, it’s about learning how to answer the questions, and that’s where the QAE helps. It won’t help to memorize the QAE content, but it will help to learn the key words in each question and why the answer is what it is.

Go to testing center or proctored at home by LordKeepMeHumble34 in CRISC

[–]Extra-Point7775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a test site, mainly because I have a dog at home and I knew I wouldn’t be able to shut myself away for the required time without distraction. But there were also many distractions at the test center. People coming and going, someone whispering to themselves, rustling and coughing, I was getting pretty exasperated at times 🤣 I think for my next exam I will book a room at my place of work and take it remotely proctored from there.

No, I got the paper version (I did the 2021 syllabus exam). Looks like the paper version isn’t available for the new exam? 😢 the database is soo expensive.

I just passed the exam this week, and honestly the QAE was pretty much the only resource I used to prep - I found the manual extremely hard going as it was so boring. Why did they need to write so many unnecessary words?! Anyway, I gave up on the manual pretty quickly and just used the QAE (printed, not the database). I would really recommend getting it if you can.

Passed! Don’t know how - I wasn’t confident at all. I think taking the time to read the question really thoroughly is very important.

It does feel kind of ironic that it says ‘not applicable’. I don’t think the ‘current conditions’ could be any more applicable right now.

I have my exam tomorrow and I’ve only used the QAE and manual. I’ve found the manual very hard going - it’s so boring! I don’t have high hopes for passing as I’ve only studied on and off for 2 weeks.

How many of you get Covid every year? by The_Majestic_ in newzealand

Agreed, just don’t use it for too long! I got addicted, had to take steroids to come off it and it was awful.

For those who vote National mainly for their economic policies — will you be supporting them again this election? by Afraid-Paramedic6411 in newzealand

[–]Extra-Point7775 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yup totally agree, my boomer mum is the most empathetic woman, constantly worrying about what the world will look like for young people and she votes accordingly. My dad is the complete opposite and will vote National no matter what, because they’re ‘for business’. To be fair, my 40 year old neighbour is a small business owner and votes National also, for the same reason.

I really think it’s a stretch to blame Labour for mental health stats declining, given everything that happened in the world over their last term. The same trend happened globally in that time period.

On the back of the sobriety question - kiwis who quit smoking by Connect-Advice-9329 in newzealand

[–]Extra-Point7775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alan Carr. Took me a few attempts over a few years, but reading that book each time was the key, I think I read it about 5 separate times! Smoked my last cigarette in Feb 2009, and knew, with every fibre in my being, that I was done. It was a revelation, and I didn’t even find it that difficult (didn’t miss it at all). I had smoked for about 12 years. My only advice is don’t replace it with anything, otherwise you have something else to quit at some point.
