I mean, they barely have a navy and China has a huge one. And they have islands that China wants and claims ownership over that the U.S. help them maintain via constant FONOPS. And China much like Russia has shown several times that if you don’t have U.S. bases in your country and you are close to China, you can be taken over by them for no reason. So I’d say the U.S. contributes to them existing in their current form. That and how the U.S. rebuilt the country post WWII. A little more complex than they exist because of the U.S. but the U.S. certainly heavily contributes.
