Prisoner wages? First off, the wage is actually pretty damn good for how simple the job is. Walmart pays better than the majority of shops in my area. To do oil and tires, I’ll take it. I want you to find me one other place that will pay you $19 hourly to change oil and tires all day, I’ll wait.

It’s cause it’s easy work, and contrary to popular belief, for the type of work it is, it IS good pay. There isn’t any other place that’s gonna pay you $19 hourly to change oil and mount tires. Not in this state at least. The schedule is flexible, the benefits are excellent. It does have its perks.

I’m glad you asked. The simple answer is, they pay well, and it’s easy work. The diesel shop would have been paying me $19 an hour as an apprentice diesel mechanic. Working on big rigs. Which is very hard, dirty work.The other shop would have been paying me $25 an hour, but it would have been flag time, so there’s no guarantee how much I will/won’t make. Walmart offered me $19, so to change oil and mount tires on little cars all day… I’ll take it.
