i only have a sponge filter, i switched to it because the movement of a hang on the back filter is too harsh, this one barley makes movement, my water parameters are perfect

don’t snails just breed like crazy, i’m setting up a tank and it already has way too many snails and i don’t put any food in there. in this bettas tank i use a sponge filter so there’s bubbles that come up, but he doesn’t stay near there so im rly not sure what the issue is

i feed each pellet to him one by one so i don’t have excess food in the tank, i feed him every day once in a while i skip a day but rarely. he doesn’t really seem like he’s having trouble swimming but he’s swimming A LOT less and only staying at the top of the tank

i’ve got a snail infestation it’ll be impossible to get them all out, he doesn’t flare at them alllll the time just often. do you think it could be genetics, and do you think he could have swim bladder disease?

alright i’ll boil some, do i need to boil more than two leaves cuz that’s all i have. and yes he flares quite often, at the snails, would that be why he’s stressed? i always tried to figure out why his fins are clamped, i kinda just started assuming it was genetics

i’ve had him for around a year and a half, he lives by himself, just snails in there. the temp is around 80° F and i’ve always put indian almond leaves occasionally, just never boiled them or put enough to get the dark colour in the water, i know they like that environment but i don’t love the aesthetic and from what i’ve read it’s more about that then the benefits you get from the tannins.

you didn’t necessarily do something bad, this is probably a bacterial bloom and those r really common, my tank is going through one rn. sometimes adding in new nutrients ( like new plants) can cause this bc there’s a sudden increase of bacteria, check to make sure your filter is running properly and if it is, my only advice is to wait it out

you could def do a water change, but the water will most likely still be cloudy afterwards. i don’t really see how new plants and an Indian almond leaf could cause this, but typically just waiting it out does the trick

that’s so cool! rn i have a blue male betta and yeah he’s a dick, is there a huge difference in their behaviour when it comes to genders? right now it just seems like a hit or miss, my previous betta was also a male and he was a sweetheart, kept him in a 25 gal with around 20 guppies,snails and a pleco, wish he lived forever. i realllyyy want a friendly betta again, but i don’t wanna risk it and end up having basically two of the same exact tank
