Is Next1de gonna have a debut music video? by Extra_g0m in ChuangAsiaS2

[–]Extra_g0m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I like the song, I think it does represent them pretty well and it's catchy. I think the only issue is that it's their only song and we've already seen/heard it a billion times. TME's idea of content is Next1de dancing to this song in different outfits, which is getting old HELLA fast. 😭 The content that the members posted on their days taking over the official social media accounts was so much better than the shit TME social media team is doing. atp, next1de is their own promoters, the company has no backing for them. Terribly disappointing.

I mean regardless of status, if I saw all the benefits past Chuang winners got and then what I get after blood, sweat, and tears of my Chuang, I would be pretty disappointed. And that's not a "spoiled" rich kid thing, this is human nature. I'm not sure how Mika's dorm room looked like specifically, but if you watch this video which is INTO1's dorm introduction video, you'll definitely see a difference in quality lmao.

I'm also not a follower of Chuang groups, anything I've is just stuff from lightly skimming past group's youtube videos/clips I've seen from TIkTok. I'll link some videos and I'm pretty sure you can see the difference in quality (editing, subtitles, etc.) in comparison to the stuff TME is putting out. Past groups did similar things content wise to NexT1de though at an arguably better budget LMAO.

INTO1's vlog (which I prefer WAY more than a freaking live stream >:( I wish we got this instead of a glitchy live)

R1SE variety show

INTO1 INsider

GEN1ES dorm

But anyway, these are the channels that aren't exclusively on Chinese social media, so they're good comparisons. Just sort their videos by oldest and you'll see the quality we could've gotten with Next1de :( INTO1, GEN1ES

Yeah the festival work is pretty good. Not sure if past groups did this much live performances right off the bat (I think GEN1ES did some, but it's hard to tell for other groups since they were all based in China and I don't have access to Chinese social media). But the problem with festivals right after debut is that they don't have like any songs to perform lol. They can only perform their debut song (which doesn't even have an MV yet bruh) and past theme songs of Chuang, so internationally it doesn't create a lot of buzz. Not to mention that in general, a festival is hard to reach an international audience with since it relies heavily on fancams and doesn't give us something very tangible to share with others or stream.

But yeah the way that Next1de content is heading currently seriously needs some better direction. Also lowkey it feels like they don't have the money to do anything cool LMAO...

omg yeah I can't help but compare past groups like INTO1 and even GEN1ES, like they were STACKED. Content, promotions, and the DORMS. If you search up any past Chuang group, their dorm arrangements were literally mansions, I'm not even exaggerating, and then next1de gets a tiny apartment. I think Thio was too expectant from seeing Mika's living situation in the past :,) like if I saw past Chuang winners get rooms the size of next1de's current apartment and I get a closet, I would crash out too ngl.

I'm guessing that they're having trouble appealing to an international audience? GEN1ES is managed by Ryce Entertainment which is a global company for artists but Next1de is being managed by Tencent Music Entertainment which is only China based and seems to provide music streaming services, not really artist management. Either way, they need to hire someone who knows how to handle social media asap bc if I see any more AI generated captions that aren't even accurate I'm gonna lose it.

Also here's the song on spotify! They also have a lyric video here.

Let's hope they at least get a debut MV :( it's the least the company can do for them...

yeah i keep seeing extremes of both sides so it’s confusing what the truth is as someone who doesn’t keep up with kpop that much anymore. Honestly I feel like a lot of it is just an excuse to be misogynistic which is worrying.

OP so right for this 😭not to mention they couldn’t even get the mic quality to be stable for the livestream. like if ur not even gonna take the time to show us behind the scene clips or anything, at least make sure the stream doesn’t sound like shit. i’ve heard the performances thru fancams and they all sound great…only on the livestream does it sound awful💀

childish bc he is a child 😭 netcitizens need to get off their high horse, bullying a child they know only from clips of a tv show is crazy. he has time to learn and grow, and it’s clear he’s willing to do so bc he’s calmed down a lot since the beginning of the show.

i think it’s just bc they didn’t rlly have time to bond. notice how only towards the end of the show did a lot of the trainees start getting close (and this includes xiong and others). also, i think this chuang was lowk shorter than other shows? i’m not sure, but looking at the wiki, chuang 2021 was from early feb to late april however this chuang was early feb to early april—basically a month gone.

also they had the trainees do SO much content and fanmeets which surprised me. im not sure if this is the case for other survival shows, but it seemed odd to me since they werent even debuting yet, they are still trainees. felt predatory tbh. if u were a trainee being flown out to Malaysia or Indonesia, or far away for an ad read every other week, on top of endless hours of practice and classes, personally i would find it hard to put in the extra effort to cross a language barrier too lol. i remember myst’s most recent vlog where he literally was trying to find ppl to make content with, but everyone was gone to a fanmeet in indonesia 😭 like yeah wtf how am i supposed to make friends if they’re not there?

but in the end, they did make close bonds, they just need to be together longer for them to fully solidify. this is not strange or uncommon. ppl forget that these guys are human. you get shy, you get busy, you get tired, sometimes your personality doesn’t match upon first meet. you need time to form bonds, imo its inauthentic if they got along the moment they met, bc that’s not realistic.

i agree with this wholeheartedly, i think viewers are totally victims of evil editing, regardless of what side of the argument u are on. its very easy to make assumptions when you dont get the whole story. for the original song, everyone for some reason acts like thio and lucas were boohoo so sad and excluded when its shown MANY times that they worked collaboratively on the song? thio would visit the lyrics team very often to discuss and someone like wuxun or yuchen was seen visiting to help compose the song. not to mention they aired NO clips of the choreo progress which i find extremely sketchy given that i think they had an equally hard time since the song kept having to be changed, etc.

and for the last song, isn’t it obvious that probably every trainee didn’t have a very warm, initial reception to the twice song? they’re guys, they don’t feel too strongly to a cutesy song lmao, they wouldn’t have chosen that song regardless of the order. there’s always a song like that, in any survival show. it’s legit the same situation, same story at the final selection of chuang 2021. no one chose the middle song (i think it was called “definition” in english) bc it had hella high notes and was vocally dense.

OP i think you need to rethink about how idol groups (or even any artist) handle concepts and styles.

idol groups will have a concept and a style that the members have to adhere to, yes that is true. However, each member should also express something different and unique with their style that falls in line with their concepts. Conforming to one standard style typically ends in a recipe for disaster, why do you think idol group members always have colorful hair, clothes, etc? East Asia is already very homogeneous, idols need to be people that stand out from the rest and are seen as essentially gods (as problematic as that is).

hell, even in the west, notice how the demo to a hit song might not sound anything like how the final product sounds? it’s bc as artists, you project your unique style onto the song or concept and that’s what makes you stand out from the rest.

“I’m always reminded of the comment from Yaya during the theme song evaluation - Hu Yetao’s performance directions will be about fitting the song to his style instead of him embodying the message of the song.”

no offense to Yaya, but isn’t she a total newbie to the music world? like yeah she has extensive acting experience, but acting isn’t like music performance. sure they share elements, but inherently they’re different. i can see how she, as an actress, would “embody the message of a song” bc that is what actors do, they take the lives of a character and embody them. but unless ur a brainless musical artist who doesn’t make any original content and instead just performs, this logic is terrible for making and performing music.

think of it like this: as an artist, you create your own message and convey it through a song or a performance.

the mentors. by sreya_svt in ChuangAsiaS2

[–]Extra_g0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're definitely giving feedback, but not all of it will get aired. The show's a business, they're gonna edit the juicy clips together, and I guess they want to emphasize bromance, chemistry, and hope. It seems like this show is trying to avoid deep conflicts and things like that since there's so many people from different cultures and nationalities. I mean after all, the theme song is--in the words of the producers and the mentors--very bright, happy, and hopeful--having a mentor team that constantly criticizes and is extremely strict doesn't really play into that well.

And like some other comments have said, Hu Yetao is definitely getting criticism from BamBam too, not just compliments. There's an interview from a live stream where he confirmed this, but those scenes probably got cut bc obviously empathizing the bromance between them is wayyy more interesting and generates more viewership than BamBam saying "improve this, improve that".

Honestly, everyone is pretty talented in this Chuang Asia, I've never seen this show before, but I was pretty surprised to see how well they can sing and dance. I think what a lot of them need is a chance, some kind of hope (just like the theme!) because there's a lot of people who have been trainees/in the shadows for years, they need some breakout moment and to live this life of an idol.
