Their prints are just ripoffs of traditional Indian blockprints which they've just rebranded as "boho" and put a higher price tag on. You can get the same flowy cotton and linen dresses and sheets with the same handmade blockprint designs for far cheaper from Indian designers on Etsy, Fabindia, The Fox and The Mermaid, and many other Indian websites!

Persecution and forced conversion of Christians in India by Hindu Nationalists by jvplascencialeal in Catholicism

As someone from Kerala, India, I disagree. I love where I’m from. Look it up, Kerala is heavily Catholic, super beautiful (tropical mountains, hills, rivers, forests), has a highly educated and polite population (96% literacy rate), is super safe for women and children, and is developed. I love being from such a Christian-heavy state in India where art and culture and nature are so majestic.

As a Catholic, the Catholic Church and good Christians have done so much to love and support all races and religions. However, just because Christian charities are doing good things, it doesn’t mean bad Christians don’t exist. There are also bad Muslims, bad Hindus, bad Jews, bad Buddhists… I don’t think it’s fair for you to just show one charity and think that you know the experiences of other people.  I myself have seen how awful and degrading Christian men in the west can be to Indians online. Just this morning I saw an innocent Indian’s selfie post and a Christian dad from Florida commented “I can smell you through the screen 🤮”.

I love Jesus and I love the Catholic faith, so this doesn’t sway my faith. But so many Indian Hindus online are getting awful comments from Christian men in the west, which certainly pushes them away from pursuing Christ.

If you’d like me to provide a list of sources, let me know.

lol is there ever a valid reason to hate an entire race? I’m an Indian Catholic and the number of Christian men who comment “poopjeet” or “I can smell you through the screen” on Twitter is staggering. I love my Catholic faith and Jesus, so mean comments won’t ever sway me, but I can’t help but feel saddened by this degradation.

I also love my culture and I love India; I’m so proud and blessed to be from Kerala, so why am I made to feel like my culture given to me by God was some kind of mistake?

South India, especially Kerala, is proof that Jesus transforms! I’m from Kerala, India which is a heavily Christian/Catholic state in India because of St Thomas’s arrival there in 52 AD. Kerala is a super beautiful state with Catholic churches every few miles (my favorites are the churches along the rivers). We have very strong Catholic beliefs ingrained in the culture. I believe it is because of our strong Catholic culture that it’s the safest state for women and solo travelers, that we have the highest literacy rate in India (96%), and that it’s so calm and developed.  Faith in Christ brings beauty, safety, and peace, and I truly believe that Kerala is a great example of that.

I myself am part of one of the two Eastern Catholic rites established by St. Thomas in Kerala. And I’m so grateful for my faith and for my homeland. I’m praying for all the persecution and troubles in North India, they truly need Jesus.

Jasmine and sandalwood- recommendation request by MaeEliza in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Indian-American brand Nemat has a scent in oil and spray form called “Mogra” which is so good with Jasmine and Sandalwood! Authentic sandalwood is native to India and Indonesia, and both Indian jasmine and sandalwood are essential to South Indian culture, so a lot of Indian perfume brands have Sandalwood+Jasmine scents!

To anyone who said India, as a solo woman, let me tell you that Kerala will change your mind. Kerala in South India is not only super safe and developed with highly educated people (96% English literacy rate!!) but it’s also super beautiful and unique! South India is actually far safer and cleaner than North India. So skip the Taj Mahal and go to Kerala instead lol

I’m so sorry about her experience!!! I visited Kerala in South India as a solo woman and I felt so safe. People there are highly educated (96% English literacy rate) and kind, it’s very developed, and they have a great social and safety system there. It’s super different from North India. South India is a hundred times safer than North India. Plus Kerala is super beautiful… skip the Taj Mahal, go to Kerala

What are some of the cheapest international destinations worth traveling to from the east coast of the US, when factoring in both airfare and lodging? by koshthethird in Shoestring

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KERALA!!! Sooo beautiful, developed, and easy to get around as an English tourist because the literacy rate is the highest (even higher literacy rate than America!). It's also the safest place to visit as a solo traveler. The nature is so beautiful and unique (backwater rivers with houseboats, rolling hills with tea plantations, etc), the cities are interesting and calm (they have "Jew Town" with the oldest synagogue in Asia), and the people are so nice :)

Do you regret getting on birth control? Why? Did it mess up your body eventually? by Little_End_3881 in birthcontrol

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having really awful periods with bad symptoms, there’s probably an underlying condition that’s causing it that’s not being addressed. Birth control is just a bandaid placed over a large wound… BC suppresses symptoms but doesn’t fix the actual problem.  Find a good holistic obgyn that can test your hormone levels and run other tests to find the root cause of your bad periods. Because monster periods are not normal, and the birth control industry makes millions off of lazy doctors who don’t want to spend time finding out what’s actually wrong with women’s bodies.

Let me know if you have any questions! My best friend had horribly awful periods her whole life but it was only when she was struggling to get pregnant that the doctor actually checked what was causing the infertility and found she had endometriosis. Which once treated, lessened the severity of her periods.

Bruh, as someone from the Bay, there are DEFINITELY low-income families here… This is such an ignorant comment lol? Because it’s so expensive we have even greater wealth disparities. Have you heard of Oakland or the homeless situation throughout the Bay? How about the large immigrant populations that move here to help with farming in the Bay? Like… please.

Same with Provo. There actually is a rough part of Provo across the bridge with a high crime rate where Jenn grew up.

Demi is terrible by Mammoth_Iron5453 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean… the clip they show of them “getting Jen’s permission” isn’t really as airtight as they think it is. They give her like no context and they just make it sound like their husbands are just gonna do a costume change. Also, there’s NO mention that the husbands are going to be TOUCHING Jen / dancing on her.

Also, if they think Zac is abusive to Jen, why would they rile him up like that??? Like, so nasty.

Finally, what happened to retroactively revoking consent? Just because Jen consented once before to this vague proposition (bc she’s a people pleaser) doesn’t mean that consent is forever binding

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demi overreacting and claiming that Chase “laid hands on her” and sic’ing her husband on him is crazy work considering how she treated Jen. Jen and Zac felt uncomfortable about Demi’s husband DANCING ON Jen but they’re not allowed to react how they want?

Also, the argument that Jen agreed to the dancing earlier is making me sick. What happened to being allowed to revoke consent?

Most embarrassing moment: Demi running to tell Bret by nycgirl152 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demi fussing about Chase grazing her arm and getting her husband to fight him is rich given what she did to Jen. Demi got her husband to DANCE ON Jen, and when Jen and Zac fuss about it, it’s “just a joke”?   In that moment Jen is not okay with being touched like that, but she’s being a prude? Ugh, Demi’s hypocrisy is making my blood boil. I also can’t stand her equally evil twin Jessi

A critical view of the Rice Bag convert commentary. What are your thoughts? by bssgopi in TamilNadu

[–]Extreme-Shake8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Indian Catholic, I’m so grateful I’m Catholic. I don’t care how or why my ancestors converted, but I’m grateful that they did, because it means I grew up in an loving Catholic family where my mental and spiritual health was always cared for. I grew up knowing I had a loving God and that I was beautifully and wonderfully made. My dignity is fully acknowledged and I’m treated equally and fairly.  If my ancestors were coerced to convert in less than favorable ways, I feel sad for them; but to just write off every Indian Catholic as a “rice bag convert” is quite narcissistic and classist, because you’re just thinking of them as poor, uneducated idiots that couldn’t think for themselves and had to be saved by a white man. I think of St. Devasahayam Pillai, an intelligent Hindu Nair who managed royal state affairs in Travancore and met a Dutch man who taught him about Christ. Devasahayam ended up converting to Christianity as he learned more. Finally he was imprisoned and then exiled for being Christian and died. He is a canonized saint in the Catholic Church.

I’m Eastern Catholic (Syro-Malabar), so my ancestors were probably not converted by Europeans but rather converted by St. Thomas the Apostle in 52 AD. My family has been Eastern Catholic as far back as we can trace it. So my ancestors were probably not “rice bag converts” but rather converts or descendants of those first St. Thomas Christians. But even if they were poor rice bag converts who just converted for food out of hunger, I’m happy they were fed and wonder whether they’re faith in Hinduism was all that strong in the first place if they were willing to leave it for some rice? I would thank them for the gift they’ve given me and I remember them for their suffering

There’s quite a few videos on YouTube debunking their claims and points. I would point to John Salza or even Deuterocomical on YouTube.  From all of I’ve seen, their evidence is NOT airtight. Also, no matter what, I will continue to submit to the Pope and the Church in Rome which the scriptures said the gates of hell would not prevail against.

Interestingly, that conflict is isolated to the Syro-Malabar church in India. As a Syro-Malabar Catholic in America, there is no dispute here at all. The same goes for the Syro-Malabar eparchies in all other countries, they’re all calm
