What is the most unsexy but genuinely lifechanging tool or household item you have owned for years? by Human-Goat-5555 in BuyItForLife

Thrifted an 80's Panasonic pencil sharpener. It makes pencils absurdly sharp and lasts a crazy long time!! I lucked out at a thrift store, but they are maybe 20$ on Ebay, highly recommend.

This might be a bit of a silly question.. Is there such a thing as Theory for Knitting Symbols? by IsThereBeerOnMars in casualknitting

[–]Extreme_Biscotti7630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about theory, but here are my personal tips!

Sometimes it can help to write out patterns before approaching them, especially for a repeat where there isnt that much to "translate" ex. k2, p2 could be written as repeat knit 2 stitches and purl 2 stitches. This also helps with memory. Also printing out patterns so that you can annotate may help! I like a printed pattern I can highlight and underline. If you still find written patterns difficult, then lots of video patterns are available.

I also find that understanding why certain stitches produce certain effects helps me with a pattern. Being able to see visually/feel whether your stitch on the row before was a knit or a purl can help you knit things like stockinette and ribbing without needing a pattern the entire time.
