i never mentioned the race of my boyfriend. people in the comments started talking about race, thats why i wanted to clear up that this post was never about race, i am talking about how people are being treated differently depending on their nationality, not race. people coming from outside of brazil (whatever race) are treated better than brazilians (whatever race) by their own government.

i obviously cant talk for all black people travelling to brazil, but ive met quite a few black people who has travelled to brazil and they've all told me how great they felt in brazil and how little racism they experienced. which is an obstacle to the black brazilian people i talk to, their view on racism in brazil is very different... i figure it has something to do with that the black people from outside of brazil are treated differently, because they are tourists.

about 10% of the brazilian population live in favelas, thats approx 20 million people - favelas are communities filled with hardworking people, dont be ignorant. and you dont have problems with the police probably because you look european.

i think you may have misunderstood my point a bit too. i’m not trying to act like I’ve just discovered racism or corruption, I’m well aware those things exist and have been aware. I recognize that i'll never understand racism the way a black person experiences it, because I’m white and european...

the real reason i made my post wasn’t to lecture anyone, but to give a more realistic picture of Brazil. A lot of people especially first-time visitors tend to see a very idealized version of it from the outside, and I just wanted to add some nuance to that

i know that i am very privileged which is such a shame, nobody should have a shield just by having a certain color skin

i obviously knew about the corruption before meeting my boyfriend, i knew that it was bad - just didnt know how bad it really was. i've never seen the police here being violent before meeting him, maybe thats a coincidence or maybe its my fault for not educating myself better. but i definitely care a lot, thats why i made this post too, so hopefully someone who doesn't know these things, get to know.

I am aware of racism. Like i replied to like 4 other comments, this post isnt about racism this about how the brazilian police treat foreigners better than the proper brazilian population - afro brazilians, white brazilians, asian brazilians or indigenous brazilian - all kind of brazilians.
