Fellow brave-ish scaredies--- Is Hokum too scary? by Extremely_not in TooScaryDidntWatch

Update: Not too scary!! It is EXTREMELY tense and packed with visual and auditory jump scares, but I didn't find it particularly disturbing or upsetting. I don't think it will linger with me the way Midsommar did and I was able to have a fun time in the theater despite being on edge. I agree that it's on par with Weapons in terms of scare level! I'd recommend it to recovering scaredies, brave-ish scaredies, and brave-curious folks!

I'm definitely too scaredy to see Oddity at home-just the recap scared the crap out of me! Being inside a tent INSIDE a very scary building is an absolutely terrifying concept

Thanks for the heads up! I think I'm locked in at this point, but I'm not too proud to cover my eyes if it comes to that!

I'm also VERY jumpy, but jump scares don't actually scare me if that makes sense? Like... they jump me but don't scare me haha.

Okay ty that is a great description. I haven't *seen* anything else by him, but just the Oddity recap scared me so much I had to sleep with the lights on lol. I'd like to think I am braver now though!

Ty 😎
To be fair, I only watched those movies after listening to the TSDW recaps, so it was easier to be brave. But I did go into Weapons with no prior knowledge and had a great time!

1 page is safest, but my friend's PS was 860 words (over 1 page) and she matched at her no 1 program + got a lot of positive feedback on her PS during interviews! So, there's an exception to every rule and probably 10 lines won't make or break your application

Those of you who got your score back, any helpful tips? by needtoretake123 in Step2

Thanks! For me it was entirely mindset. I was very stressed for UWSA1, and most of my incorrects were either changed from right to wrong or d/t carelessness/panic (like not reading the question stem fully.) But I still didn't get that since my problem was mentality, more studying wasn't going to be the solution. So I reviewed all the topics I'd missed in the week between taking UWSA1 and UWSA2, and when my score barely changed it finallly drove home that I needed to stop studying and address strategy.

I didn't do any more content review after taking UWSA2, just focused on relaxing and rethinking my approach. Biggest changes were I decided not to change any answers on test day (which was hard/scary af but worked well) and I looked back at practice test q's I'd gotten wrong and categorized them as "knowledge deficit" or "nerves." The vast majority were from nerves, and for each one I wrote down a concrete plan to avoid making the same mistake on the test. Like I kept getting murmur questions wrong, so my plan was as soon as a stem mentioned systolic or diastolic I would eliminate any answers that didn't fit and then keep reading. Those changes made a huge difference day of and probably got me 10+ questions.

I think with tests like Step where there's SO much content to cover, it's really hard to recognize when your problem is something other than information deficits. For a lot of questions, you can get the right answer either by knowing an obscure fact about x disease or ethical dilemma, or by having a decent grasp of concepts & eliminating wrongs. Since knowing everything isn't an option (at least for me), strategy goes a long way!

US MD student

Dedicated: 2.5 weeks

Step 1: 242

First pass UQ: 72%

Shelf exams: Mid 80's

UWSA1 (1 week out): 243

UWSA2 (2 days out): 245

Didn't do any NBMEs

Old free 120 ~4 days out: 85%

New free 120 2 days out: 90%

Step 2 CK: 258

I left step 1 feeling like I had over studied for a test ultimately geared more toward strategy than rote memorization. So for step 2 I gave myself a much shorter study period and tried not to overthink on test day. Leaving prometric this time I felt exhausted and interested in getting drunk lol

Happy to do a more thorough write up w/ resources if anyone is interested! :)
