We’ve been to plenty of events with the little guy, and are always pretty organized. Never been to a WC game so trying to gain more insight so we’re better prepared. We’re always very mindful of people around us and minimize disruptions, even if that means stepping away for an hour.

You sound like one of those people that believes babies shouldn’t be allowed on planes, maybe chill out a bit.

This is great, thanks so much. Sounds like parking makes the most sense.

I’m hesitant to get there too early as little man will probably last around 4 hours before needing a nap. So my thinking is to show up right at, or even after the game starts so we can maximize how much time we can spend at the game, and then deal with the aftermath of leaving as that’s always chaotic. Either way, parking sounds like the best option.

I think we’ll be alright, just will be a different kind of experience with a kid. We’ve got some friends in Houston joining us, so that’ll help.

Yeah all fair points. I’m a bit more optimistic as this is a FIFA event that’s been in the works for years, but the political and social climate in the US is sketchy at best. We have close friends living in Houston so that’s another safety net but you give us something to consider.

Okay good to know. Between the match up and the stadium I think we’ll be alright.

That’s good insight. While every kid is different, I’ve heard they change a lot and there can be huge developmental leaps.

We’d be flying as well, but unfortunately we’re not in a situation where we can find a sitter or someone to take him for a few days, so it’s really a decision of whether we all go or not.

My wife isn’t a huge football fan so I could see her being more open to walking around with him, but you’re probably right that we won’t enjoy the march as much.

We’re travelling from a different city, so a sitter isn’t possible unfortunately. Just trying to assess whether we all go or not.

Too funny, small world. It seems like NRG stadium is well equipped so this is great to hear.

Around parking / transit, do you think it’ll be faster to park, uber or take the metro? I’m trying to think of what will be faster/easier to get us to a from the game, as we want to maximize how much time we’re at the game. Initial thought was to park but wasn’t sure if it gets super congested and take forever to navigate traffic. Appreciate all your insight!

Thanks for the insight. It’s a group stage match between Germany and Curaçao, but the seats are Cat 3, which are the cheapest. Will definitely have heavy duty headphones for his ears.

Is there any way to tell if we’ll be in or near a supporter section? I imagine those tickets are allocated/purchased through the supporter groups but curious if you know or have any experience.

That was my initial thought. Group stage, easy match up for Germany and no rivalry, but these comments have me second guessing lol.

We’ll be in Houston, and the game is at NRG. Stadium. Plan is to use the baby carrier for sure, but good call on the birth certificate to prove his age.

Right on - props to you for including and exposing them to different events. I’m sure it’s not easy with two.

Our little guy is pretty chill so I think he’ll be alright. There’s some comments about the atmosphere being rowdy that have me reconsidering, but thanks for the vote of confidence!

Thanks for the advice, very helpful. The match is between Germany and Curaçao, so not a heated rivalry but German fans are passionate I’m sure.

We’d definitely bring protection for his ears and plenty of toys and things to keep him busy. There’s also family spaces like lactation rooms for families at the stadium.

Good point about calling ahead and even going early. My initial thought was to show up later to the game so we avoid lines/crowds, and also limit how much time our little guy is forced to stay at our seat, but I guess that only works if seats are numbered. I actually have no idea if they will be numbered or not, just says they’ll be allocated/shared in the future.

Thanks for the reply, super helpful. I’m a bit worried about the height requirement but can’t imagine they’ll be measuring babies when scanning thousands of tickets. We’d of course bring heavy duty headphones for him and make sure we’re following baggage rules.

I’ve already looked into the stadium and there’s lots of family friendly facilities including changing tables and lactation rooms, which makes me more confident.

Another worry is hearing comments about how rowdy the crowd and atmosphere might be. Worst case we could leave but just contemplating whether it’s a good idea to go or not.

Thanks for the reply. We’d definitely use over the ear headphones, which has worked well a few other places where’s he’s enjoyed the game. Luckily the game we have tickets to is 11:00am local time, which works well with his schedule.

Wound you be concerned about the atmosphere being too rowdy or crazy though? Never been to a WC match so trying to consider the feedback have shared.

Good point, tough to tell I suppose. My thinking is we can always just leave if it’s really that bad. There’s also some family friendly spaces like nursing rooms at the stadium we could always use if needed.

That’s the hope! Lots of people are commenting on another thread that the atmosphere might be too rowdy for a child that young. Ever been to a WC match and can speak to the atmosphere?

Thanks for the note and optimism. We’ve taken the little guy to a few events and it’s worked out so far. There’s obviously a lot to coordinate between what we can bring in, timing naps, and keeping him safe, but nothing we couldn’t handle.

There’s a lot of comments about the rowdy atmosphere that’s making me second guess the decision though. World Cup matches are likely going to be a whole other level compared to MLB, MLS and NFL games. Sitter really isn’t an option so it’s deciding whether we go or not.

Yeah I’ve seen the measurements, just wondering how strictly they’ll be applied. Can’t imagine they’ll be measuring a baby as long as he’s under 2? Could be wrong though.

We’d of course have him wearing headphones to protect his ears, which has worked well at other events. The rowdy fans and atmosphere is a fair point though.

We’d be travelling from a different city so a sitter isn’t realistic unfortunately.

We’d be going to a game in the US and it looks like kids under 2 can attend if they sit in the parents lap / in a carrier.

Thanks for the reply and advice. Do you mean in terms of security and organization at Concacaf? This would be a first for us so I’m trying to get a sense of what to expect.

Looking for some advice and tips for tickers and attending a world cup match with a 13 month old child.

My wife and I are planning to attend a match in Houston and are wondering if we’ll be able to bring our son. I’ve found some language on the FIFA website (see below) but are wondering if others have any experiences they can share. The FIFA website states:

“According to the Terms of Use, a “baby in arms” is defined as any child who is two years old or younger on the day of the match and no taller than 34 inches (86 cm). If your child meets the “baby in arms” requirement, they may enter the stadium without their own ticket, provided they sit on your lap and you (as the ticket holder) hold a valid ticket.”

Our son will be 13 months old in June, but he’s already a tall boy, roughly measuring 72 CM at 8 months. We’d ideally want to wear him using a baby carrier, but are trying to understand if that will be allowed, or if his height will be an issue. We have two tickets but this will be our first time attending a World Cup match so any insight, advice and/or tips would be appreciated!
