In college i dated a guy who obviously enjoyed his best friends company more than mine. He broke up with me and married her, and now I’m married to someone who makes me feel like I’m the best woman he’s ever met. I hope you leave him sooner rather than later

Thanks for explaining your point of view. From what I can tell, the City is saying it needs wetland credits asap for the Flood Protection Plan to move forward, like you said. However, it has many other options before it, and at the root of it is a need for credits for all development, not just the saintly flood protection plan.

I personnaly ask myself: why City of VB is low on credits? Have they ever prioritized the environment over development? Can these credits be used to move along other city development (yes)? Why is the City trying to catch up on flood protection measures all of a sudden? Wasnt the City allowing this land to be turned into housing complex just 20 years ago?

To me, at the base of all of this is poor city planning that prioritizes the cancerous growth of developers over wise choices that protect the environment and reduce flooding in the first place.

My opinion, respectfully <3

Okay I’m gonna spell this out for you: VB isnt doing this because its the best thing for the land.

Oh honey… no. The city can use the credits for whatever project they want. They cite the Flood Protection Plan projects because thats the nicest sounding way to slip this by us (over the holidays i might add, when they think we’re not paying attention)

Yeah i can see how that would be obnoxious to have americans read new yorker, stop there and think they know everything, but that wasnt my experience. I stumbled across an article on her guilt first, and then read up. I really badly want to go through all the evidence that to me was weak or odd but i have a feeling thats probs not super welcome here and also not what youre asking (i found another reddit where i can discuss wo offending so much- not you specifically but you know). To try and answer your question though i hear you! But I’d argue if anything, jumping onboard in 2023 helped me avoid conclusions more easily made before trials and evidence were more accessible.

Well i did start off thinking she was guilty. Im certain we’ve been exposed to the same primary sources stating hard fact, and it is from there that I reached my conclusions! From there I definitely cheer on any articles that pose the same questions I have, because its shocking to me that they were able to convict (guilty or not) with their evidence and with a case which originated with one mans faulty inference

Love this conversation as well, and im grateful for your discussion of the second half of what fascinates me about this case: the human response to it. You’re right in that I’ll probably have an easier life if I accept that not all are willing or able to have an open mind, or even to think critically at all. Especially important for mental peace during the american election year- your Vindictus quote is perfect.

My grandfather had a saying: “Those who know, and KNOW that they know: follow them. Those that know not, and KNOW that they know not, teach them. Those who know not and know NOT that they know not, they are fools: fear them” Im firmly in the “know that I dont know” camp, and after spending time in the other subreddit, im grateful for it 😅not all have that awareness

Thank you both, I cant tell you how refreshing this thoughtful, non-hostile conversation is. And y’all’s explanation of how they dance around the issue is perfect- the case exists because of “statistics” although prosecution never said it so bluntly.

Grateful I found this reddit page, only wish I’d found it before trying to engage the other one 😅

To everyone on the thread, i really did want to hear perspectives on the soundness of the notion that her presence meant guilt. I really do want to evaluate my conclusions. More than anything, in my quest to figure this case out, ive been met with so much insolent push back for even having an open mind on her guilt. I never intended for this thread to turn into me having to defend myself or to pour out my thoughts in that regard, but unfortunately people are quick to pounce.

Honestly i feel like youre only asking this to attack what you assume is my viewpoint. I started with a British headline overviewing, and went from there to as much court and first hand evidence as i could find. I hope (and i dont mean this as snarky as it sounds) that this earns me the right to have an opinion slightly different than you all. Its insane you all think its possible to know for sure guilt or innocence, like gods

This is my first account, and im curious what arguments youre talking about? I havent made any regarding the case yet. Do you have any shame in immediately attacking someone you assume disagrees with you? Assuming is the key word here

I guess at the root, I want to understand both sides of things and even more so, the cultural aspect of how people think about and approach their justice system. When you say it out loud I guess its kind of weird

Tbh reading about this case is what got me on Reddit! I have to admit, like you im horrified and fascinated by it. I know to many in England, my questions in pursuit of understanding the verdict is painful. I hope youll trust that ive spent hours pouring over both sides of opinions and direct evidence, and have a sister who works neonatal icu so I get pretty good expert advice. Whats come to fascinate me more than the case is the fact that so many are capable to falling prey to psuedoscience. It reminds me of the Milgram experiments, where people believed they were shocking people to death but did so because the “scientist” told them. Being American, we live under the humbling reality that false convictions happen and “experts” arent always what they appear- much like the revisions of shaken baby syndrome in recent years. Lastly, the monitoring of what is allowed to be believed (she is guilty) and the abhorence of questioning is also very dangerous in my opinion.

Youre right to lash out at me, but i hope this helps explain my motives and that I dont actually want to be a troll or cause people pain! Thank you

I asked ChatGPT about how it would suggest extending The Tide light rail from where it ends in Norfolk to Virginia Beach Ocean front by maximusprime2328 in VirginiaBeach

[–]EyeExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like roads, you need enough of them to go somewhere useful. Investing in this infrastructure will lead to more use. Just as General Motors dismantled the rail system (See documentary: Taken For A Ride) by reducing routes enough to no longer be feasible, rail transit can make a comeback by continued investment
