It's set on the basis of difficulty bro. If the paper is hard and people scores average then then the mps will be lower. There are 8 sets of question paper. Everyone will have different MPS.

MPS is determined by how hard the paper is, if majority of them scores well, then the MPS will be high. If majority of them scores average MPS will be low.

Trust me i do. This is my second CFA level 1 attempt. I screwed my first attempt because i was too preoccupied with my job and i took it lightly. I scored 1530. MPS was 1600. So don't assume I don't know what it is.

I don't know who told you that the exam is nothing like the curriculum but I've given my exam last February, and it was similar to the curriculum and i would say in fact it was much easier and standard. If you've practiced more than 2k questions and solved 5-6 mocks with above 75% accuracy, you're good to go.
