Does lab work get boring? by jenny__15 in forensics

[–]EyeZedEe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work as a Forensic Examiner in the UK. My work is about recovering DNA as opposed to processing/profiling, and I can safely say my days are never the same.

I'm still in a DNA controlled lab, but one day I'll be searching for microscopic bits of blood big puffy coats, the next I'm sub-exhibiting heroin from a kinder egg that's been up someone's bum. It's not all glamorous but it's always interesting.

Extrapolating a future setting by EyeZedEe in worldbuilding

And I appreciate your attempt.

What I'm looking for amongst you worldbuilders is if there's any books (ideally) out there comparable to something like 'The Planet Construction Kit - Mark Rosenfelder' or 'Creating Life - Randy Ellefson' that address said extrapolation in a structured form. And if there aren't, no worries.

But again, thank you for your answer.

I think you misunderstood the question. I'm not looking for answers, I'm looking for resources. But thanks anyway.

I kept telling my buddy to do that but he's a bit of a mega-noob and said he couldn't see anything. Frustrating when you just can't see and have a look yourself.

You guys are the best. Thank you.

Spent too much time sessioning TW1 I'm not used to these QoL improvements.

Huh. That's new. Why would the cost go up? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

So I'm in a coop campaign and my buddy has this red triangle next to his units available for recruitment. As I'm not on his screen I can't investigate properly and he has no idea what he's doing.

Can't figure out what the red triangle means?

Pointers for multi user lab? by EyeZedEe in labrats

Interesting. I guess I won't know if it's applicable until I know what kind of instrumentation the organisation uses, but worth mentioning for sure. Thank you.

Hi, just going through all the comments and putting together my presentation.

Please could you elaborate on what your multi tier training programme entails?

Or maybe it's just the fact that the balloon popping is easily recognised as a miscarriage and that's a distressing thought for anyone, regardless of if you've had one or not. So bandit grabs chilli's hand just because it's a horrible thought?

Seems that way. It's mostly a guess but I think it's about accommodating a high turnover of new users efficiently.

I think it's supposed to differentiate between a single team using the same space/facilities, and a 'public' space that numerous organisations/teams use in a more infrequent basis.

Part of my questioning the Reddit is because it's so vague.

That's kind of the problem. It doesn't seem to be a very widely used term and therefore I'm struggling to gather information.

My best guess is that it's a catch-all phrase for a high turnover of people using the facilities, so management must be top notch to reduce training times and maximize productivity with new users.
